You will have open water for sure, but it will be cold. We have had lows in the teens for the last couple days. Good Luck.

weather was fantastic the past 2 days --any info ? MD

Yep, it's still Cave Run and water depths are running all the way from the bottom to the surface again, like usual this time of year, and the water has a temperature. Oh wait, this is my forecast for next week. Let's see, oops yeah, here it is, same for this week. Lucky thing Dan!

Fished Saturday and today. Fished the main lake Saturday and got a dink first thing Saturday morning and popped a 30 incher early afternoon. Fished up in the river today and didn't see a thing. Need more water in the hollers to get the trap bite going. Both fish hit a trap.

Jake and I went out last weekend (3/6 thru 3/9)
Water temps started 41-42* and ended up to 52* in some places. The water was a bit murky in some places, but wasn't bad.
I lost a couple of fish the first day and caught just 2 dinks but it was great to get out on open water.
Jake and I fished a lot of spring time spots, but the bigger fish just wern't there yet,....Shad were moving big time into the shallows, so I imagin the muskies will be following real soon.
We also hit some of the deeper points leading into the shallows without any luck..... Oh Well......... it was fun to be there with a good friend who pounded the water profusley(sp?) Big baits, small baits, didn't trick these Cave Run fish, this time but I'll be back in 2 weeks... So look out !

As Jerome mentioned, we pounded the water pretty hard for 4 days and just couldn't get much going. I always love catching muskies, but just getting out on the water and enjoying the warm, 70 degree weather was enough for me! Thanks a lot Jerome...we might not have gotten them down south this spring, but we'll get them on Vermilion this summer/fall; and maybe up in northern WI if you're able to make it!
Good luck in the tournament, those fish will be shallow as soon as the temps stabilize a little more in the low-mid 50's.

Hi,
I was down there on Monday. It was beautiful. We managed to boat three smaller fish. One really small upper 20's and two in the mid 30's. Everything was shallow. Very shallow. As Jake and Jerome mentioned the shad were moving in by the middle of the day. The three we did get were caught after 11:30 and before 5:00pm. One fish was on a rattle trap and the other two were on baby depth raiders trolling on a short line. I wish I had more than one day but I was tied up in Cinn. Ohio on some buisness. I also feel the same as Jerome and Jake that its starting to heat up but its not quite there yet.

Just got back from the cave today. I saw a few good sized fish, and another guy boated a dink. The weather was beautiful, water was stained, and there were shad, shad, shad.... everywhere. All I could catch was a mean sunburn lol.

Trinity Trail guys had a one day tourney on sat the 29th. 24-25 boats . One team doubled with 2 30 inchers, 1 38, and a couple around 30-32. That was it for sat, but on sunday (weather was far colder) rivermusky boated a 40 and 32 as reported on a seperate thread. seems like sat would have been good, it was far warmer than sunday. I got the sat report 2nd hand so if it's off forgive me. MD

10 March 9:30 am 1st storm passed through. On the water and fishing the gravel at Clay Lick to the end(nothing). Around 11:30 am moved to Buck creeck hit the gravel at the front working our way to the back. Raised a small pup at the back(no taker) on a bucktail. Fished on through and around 3:30 PM made a pass back by the one I raised. Boated small 25"( better than nothing) not the worst day we've had on the lake. Around 20 mins. later headed back to the boat ramp, loaded the boat and away we go. Listening to the radieo on the way home. Tornado warning 2 countys away, tornado watches all around us and where we were, went through a hell storm on the way home about 5 miles from the ramp and we didn't even know all this was going on. It rained on us but nothing bad. Caught a fish, small but a fish and didn't even get wet. You talking about luck, the fishing God was holding us in his hand for sure. Went as far to put a fish in the boat so I would call it quits and head home, other wise I would be there till dark came and we would have got hit by the big storm.
