Has anyone had any luck with this bait? I haven't quite hooked up with anything with it yet but i am a believer in it's action. My MAIN concern lies in the size of the jig hook.......it's like a 10/0 gaff. I was wondering if people were actually de-barbing that hook considering there is a trailer hook that is replaceable and slightly smaller and cutting that hook means you have to replace the whole thing.

Good question. I never really paid attention to the size of the barb on the hook, that could make for a difficult release. I just bought one last year and really liked the action also. But, have not caught anything with it either. Any success stories with the chatterbait anyone?

De-barbing that hook would present another problem. that trailer hook would come off if the barb wasn't there................man i'm kinda glad i haven't caught anything on it yet.

Posts: 742 Location: Grand Rapids MN | I haven't thrown it a lot but I have had a number of lookers on it. I would throw it more but the vibration does actually wear on the hands after a while. I know of a few people who like to use it at night. Good action but like the rest of you don't know how it will do once hooked up. Edited by Targa01 3/23/2009 5:26 PM

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I watched several muskies caught on that lure on the Goon last summer up to 48". Hooking and releasing didn't seem to be an issue. I didn't have one, unfortunately. Now I do!

THAT's good to hear. I think it's a good alternative to the double 10's and the countless bucktails being tossed in the highly pressured lakes of the metro area of minnesota.

Posts: 73 Location: sw pa | i have had action on it and a friend of mine has too. i got one on the 8 last yr. i filed the barb down and took the single trailer hook off and replaced it with a treble hook and slid the plastic piece back on the hook.to hold it in place. very good dark water lure.

Posts: 574 | Are you guys using a certain leader with these? Does it require a snap on the end? I bought 1 last year, and it refused to shake. I use ONLY split rings on my leaders, and thought that might be the reason? Opinions? I have a few leaders made up now with stay-loks on them hoping this will solve the problem.

Posts: 223 Location: Minn. | I use Stealth leaders 130# and some times I need to rip the bait to get it to start vibrating. They are a great slow rolling type of bait and work equally as well when ripped or burned. The hookup ratio has been good for me also.

Hey to solve the issue of getting the bait to shake, put a split ring throught the 2 holes on the blade. that small clip has tons of freedom when it's attatched to a split ring than to 2 flat holes. I can roll that thing almost to a dead stop and it'll shake.

Posts: 742 Location: Grand Rapids MN | You guys just might have some 'out-of-tune' baits; mine starts working right away and I can slow roll that thing without it stopping. I don't have suggestions on how to get them working correct since the ones I have worked right out of the package. Oh ya, burning them almost feels like pulling #10's.. Posts: 3 | THE CLIP THAT COMES ATTATCHED TO THE BLADE IS INFLUENCED TO ONE SIDE BECAUSE IT'S TOO SMALL. THIS IS WHAT I DID AND IT WORKED GREAT. Attachments ---------------- CHATTERBAIT.jpg (75KB - 247 downloads)
