Subject: older abu 7000

I just picked up an older abu 7000, red in color ( no kidding) , red single paddle handle,No numbers on the reel foot, no decals, on the left it says, ambassadeur 7000 sweden, it has the two cast control knobs ,the one on the left is numbered, the one near the handle is standard abu. excellent shape and I couldnt pass up the 50 bucks price tag.. can anyone give me any help with this reel ? i.e. how to work the dual cast control knobs, what gear ratio do you think it could be,

thanks

It would be a 4.1/1 gear ratio. The two cast controls are used in conjunction with each other to center the spool and also adjust the spool tension.

lock down the knob on the crank side (right). There is a tab on the opposite side of the crank (left) under the friction knob. Zero this out by rotating the tab to the position at which there is no friction on the spool. The arrow on the knob should help you with this. A good starting place for most musky lures is 2 to 2.5 depending on your experience with baitcasters and how much you use the thumb. Feel free to send me a PM as 7000's are my go to reels except for a select few.
