For around the $100 to $120 range I see: -Cabelas -Gander Mtn -Compre -Okuma -Let me know if there are others. I need a all purpose muskie rod around this price range. What do people think are the best way to go. Length and Rod action aswell. Thanks in advance, Jimus

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | CK out the TICA rods, in 8' or 8' 6" H & XH action, These rods are telescopic so when you are done for the day they will go down under 7' to fit in a rod locker. Retail $119.00 - $129.00 find them at R&H. Go with 8' 6" XH great rod for baits up to 8oz. Edited by PIKEMASTER 3/16/2009 4:33 PM

Posts: 415 Location: madison wisconsin | I would go with a okuma 8' Heavy action. Would throw almost anything well except for pounders (although never tried). For me an 8 footer is a touch too long for a jerk rod, but others will say they love it. For the money, warranty, and quality it's a great rod. I think $110. It is also telescopic to go down to 7 ft. Where can you get the okumas? Does anyone know if there will be any at the mn muskie show? I've heard good things about these rods and would like to check them out. I know RandH carry them but i would like to hold one first.

Posts: 663 | For the $120.00 range you owe it to yourself to check out the St. Croix Triumph series. Great rods for not much dough. I really like the 7'6" heavy/fast as a nice general purpose rod. Lure rating is 2-6 oz. and has a lot of features of the more expensive series.

Mike Hulbert and Musky Armor are coming out with a new rod very soon that should fall very close into that price range. You may want to check those out. I am not sure when they will become availible, but i am sure Mike will let everyone know when they become availible.

No sending it in, no calling customer service, no filling out forms, no questions asked. Just bring it and they are usually great about letting you walk over to the rack and grabbing another. Keep you reciept.

Keep you reciept. I've heard the same thing about Gander's rods from more than a few people. They're really good about that. I second the Okuma 8'6" XH (it will be my next rod) but for throwing everything go with a 8 footer or even 7'6". I don't know if Okuma makes one or not. The triumph series would be a good option, too. "Hard to wrong with a st. croix" as they say.

I bought a Rod!! Thanks for the info everyone. I went with the Gander extreme muskie 8' Heavy. Feels pretty stiff to me but thats probably becaus I'm not use to a stiffer rod. Using only one rod I figured if it breaks, replacing it would be quickest with these rods. Seems like a great rod. I can't wait to try it out. Thanks again, Jimus

Posts: 1185 Location: Iowa | Shimano Compre 8'0" XH...it has the back bone needed to throw any bait but a soft enough tip to not make it feel like a pole vaulting pole...plus the lifetime over the counter warranty at any retailer is a huge plus...I just bought one and can't wiat to use it with my new toro 60 in the 5.4:1 Big Perc

Posts: 1316 Location: Madison, WI | If you don't plan on throwing DCG's I'd say 8'6" okuma H, one of my favorites in my arsenal. If you're planning on tossing DCG's get the XH. Lifetime warranty on their rods, can't beat that!!
