| This is my first year of musky fishing so I am just beginning the process of accumulating boxes and boxes of musky lures.[:p] But I was just curious, of all your lures how many do you actually use and how many pretty much sit in the tackle box. Are there particular lures and color patterns you predominantly use? |

| I use different colored baits for each lake depending on water color. This time of year during the day I use two different poles. In the morning I have a spinnerbait on one and an in-line on the other. Twards nightfall I switch them to two different surface baits. One that works fast and one slow.
I'd say I have 20 or 30 baits that I don't use. I'm sure that they all catch fish it's just that I don't enjoy throwing them, so there they sit.
We should set up some kind of bait exchange on this site.

| I would guess that I have probably thrown over 30 different baits this year already. Over the course of the year I will probably throw everything in the box a couple times. I'm not a big bait switcher but I will change after every unproductive drift just to try to locate a hot bait for the day. Sometimes just the subtle changes will make all the difference between lookers and eaters. |

| Over the last few years I have worked HARD to break my habits as a chronic bait switcher.....I am cured, and now I catch more fish! Keeping a bait wet that will remain unfouled and somewhere near the water level the fisheses are at is key i believe, color is important, but not nearly so as the 2 above ideas. I bring about 20 baits to the lake, use probably 5 in a pretty constant rotation and maybe give a "test toast" to about 5 or 6 more in the day. A "rotation" for me lately looks like this:
a. Doc for the early morning, or if the baitfish seem to be pushed up high
b. 6" Shaker, try the slower approach, counting down to all depth
c. Mag Dawg, gotta go big sometimes!
d. 10" Jake, its the PIG bait of all PIG baits
e. Ghosttail II, chuckin hair is a nice break from all the jerking and twitching from a-d.
I'll throw a few different colored 'tails too, and maybe another glider here and there, but thats pretty much it for me lately.

| I take alot of baits with me to cover changing conditions but I may only use 5 to 10 tops in a given day. I have about 400 baits and have a plano box full that I don't use and take them to the winter swap meets. |

| 5 baits on a good day, 20-30 on a bad day. But the actual lures in my plano over&under change from one lake to another. No water is the same you know. Heck, that's just one more excuse to buy more lures! LOL |
