Location: Long Prairie, Minnesota | All depends on who you talk to and what you have for a unit on your boat. Personally, I prefer the Lakemaster chip. I run a Lowrance GPS unit and while it will take both chips, I like the LM, especially when navigating/running around the lake. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe that Hummingbird will take LM chips, only the Navoinics, which pretty much limits your choices if you have a Hummingbird. Both chips will get you to where you need to go however........ |

| It also depends on where you are going to fish. Lakemaster has awesome maps for Traverse Bay, Sabaskong, the NW angle and more. All 1ft contours. The problem with it is that if you want to go to Whitefish, or another part where Lakemaster hasn't done the extensive mapping, you get next to nothing. The Navionics chip doesn't have any 1 foot contours on it but its got enough info on the entire lake to get you around and keep you off the rocks. Hope this helps. |

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | If you are using them for Navigation, I would opt for the Navionics chip. Not as cluttered and easier to read at speed. For working structure I like the Lakemaster. It provides better detail and accuracy for individual rocks and such.
No clear cut answer, I have both!

| 2008 Navionics North chip has canadian hydrographic mapping for LOTW. 2009 chip has all of MN side to one ft and part of Canada, with the rest being Canadian Hydrographic mapping is now included on the Navionics north. Haven't looked at the Navionics Canada of 09 yet tho. |
