anyone know if okuma will be coming out with longer telescoping rods. the 8.5 ft xh is good...would love a 9 ft that telescopes down to around 7 ft. any inside contacts at the company that i could contact?

In a recent chat here, Mark Rogers confirmed that 2 telescopic 9'3" models were in the development. One rod is supposed to be for ripping pounders and I'm not sure what the other is geared for. Here is a link to the chat. http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=48...

I'm still having problems finding these rods. I live in Illinois and I'd love to be able to get my hands on one before I buy. I've talked to my local Gander Mountain(Davenport, IA) and every employee I've talked to is absolutely clueless. When I made it up to Wisconsin during the season Scheels or Gander Mountains never had them.

Mack you won't regret your purchase. I bought mine sight unseen, and love both of them!!

Gmac, check with Smokies Musky Shop, Rollie and Helens, or shoot Mark Rogers (california_musky I think) a PM to find out who carries them around your area.

Do you all have a Sportsmans Warehouse in Illinois? I know they carry several Okuma musky rods

I threw XX's last year with them, and they worked awesome for this application. I used the 8'6 XH. Good fast tip for chuck'n those dudes. I wouldn't go with the H as the XH is underrated I think, so it is misleading. Throws the 10's awesome though.

Got an e-mail from Mark the other day. He says that the 9'-3" are still in the development stage, but hopes to have them out by mid summer. I can't wait to get my hands on one. From what I understand there will be two. One with a action similar to the XH in the 8'-6", and the other with a little more tip to throw the big rubber baits.

I've used the 8'-6" XH for DCG's both 10's and 13's for the past two years and they are awesome. Great tip for throwing these lures, great backbone for setting the hook and enough flexibility to handle the fish. Over all they "work".

Mark, if you're reading this tell those guys to hurry! I'm very interested in the longer versions and may just have to hold off until they come out. Please keep us updated on the progress.

I should be getting the second test samples in the next two weeks. If the changes from the first were correct, I will be placing an order to hopefully arrive in July. I will make an announcement when they will be here after all the testing is completed.

For those looking for places to buy the current rods. Shoot me a PM with your area and I will see if I can find a dealer near you.
