FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Greg Wells has just advised me that the Wisconsin Conservation Congress, at it's spring meeting of the delegates, has APPROVED the Green Bay 54" musky size limit! Therefore it should now be forwarded to the Wisconsin DNR, for further development and implementation. Now the local musky groups will be able to sit down with the local biologist this summer, and revise the management plan to develop a trophy muskellunge fishery in the bay of Green Bay.

Congratulations to everyone that worked so hard in this endeavor, and THANK YOU to all who have supported these efforts. Also, thanks again to MuskieFIRST for providing a great forum to facilitate the communication process over these last few years.

TB

Yes it is Steve.

I should add in the interest of fairness, that the DNR could indeed put it on their spring questionnaire in 2010. Or they could simply proceed directly to the Legislature; at least that's the way it has been explained to me. But I presume they would submit it to another CC hearing in some sort of modified form, once our biologist meets with our local groups and develops a more definitive plan. I haven't talked to him about it, so I am simply not sure what he has in mind--but I think they have several options at this point. Remember that the CC resolution process is only advisory, so the DNR is not bound by these results. However our biologist has stated he will work with the various groups, so it seems as though it will in fact get done.

Although there's still a ways to go on this, I believe that we are one big step closer to seeing it become a reality.

Congrats even though I think 54 is way too low. Honestly that is an awesome achievement, you should be proud of all the work you and everyone did! Thanks for keeping people informed and educated! Good luck with the DNR!

That is great! For years now, MN has been touted as a state in which the DNR has put forth such an effort to aid in musky matters. It is nice to see Wisconsin put together an implemented plan to help one of it's trophy producing areas - The Mcnair fish better watch out! GB is sure to produce some true giants. Congrats to the people who made it happen - you are to be commended!

A lot of people put a lot of effort into this, so thanks to everyone for not giving up. After being defeated last year they could have easily said 'we tried' and continued to watch the harvest, but they didn't, and have not, quit. So I'll thank you everytime I see a broken hearted fella tossing a 53 back. "Not around here buddy, the GB Musky Coalition says that aint good enough, its trophy territory!"
And would also like to thank the "serial musky killer of 2006" that we all came to know and love..... I honestly believe that with out his efforts and his actions of that epic year, none of this would be possible. Thanks again bud.

Good luck to everyone this season, hope they ALL see the net!

It is actually attitudes and commentary of this nature that DO NOT make the fight any easier. Arrogance and ridicule haven't gotten us too far in the past, and the point this proposal is at in process might indicate we don't need it now.

Thanks for the update Tom. Talked with my 'bay friends' at length about this, and we agree that it would be great to see the DNR make a rule change now that the public has clearly spoken a number of times in favor, but know people will be ready again next spring if needed. Selfishly, I'd sure like to see it become rule quickly, so we can get to work on a couple more Musky/Pike resolutions for the WI river. Part of me would like to see the GB process through before making another push, part doesn't want to wait.

Hey Herman, I know what you're saying and at one point would have backed you all the way. But many of us have learned through our own mistakes made with great intentions that Reef Hawg is right. You should take no offense to his comment he's not picking you, he's stating a fact. I've been there too. It has been proven across state boundaries that if we stand together and use common sense and sensible comments, our goals are achieved and our ideas respected. Jason, if you don't come with the long haired guy and me in June I will be very dissappointed...............................
