Just wondering who makes a good quality bilge pump? Mine is 5 yrs. old. How long do they last? Thanks

Mine is 16 years old...no problems. They look fairly simple. The only problem I've ever seen on someone else's boat was faulty or loose wiring, and getting clogged up. Some newer models look easier to unclog.

Mine lasted since 1991 in my old rig and it is still happily pumping away for the new owner. The only thing I found that hurt pumps was if mono got down in the bilge and wrapped around the pump shaft. Had that happen once long time ago, replaced the pump, and then saw the line. Removed it and the old squealing like a pig pump was quiet again and pumped fine. When you think of it, how much are they actually working in a season? Not too long under normal use. Worst case is when the boat is tied up over night at the pier and a t-storm dumps on it. Then an automatic pump is a good deal!
