Not that I want to be on your iggy list luckymusky but eBay does need a way for others to put sellers on an ignore list. That right there would take your average "musky lure" search from 1000+ to 300 or less...

One side note, did you guys know that eBay limits each seller to only showing 10 items on the first page of a keyword search? So, if I sell 40 items in one day you will only see the first 10 items being sold so I think they have tried to solve some of the problems with sellers putting on 100 items a day... The pink boarder guy gets around this by having about 8 eBay aliases. I tried that but it was a real pain to keep track so I stopped. Pink boarder guy is a tropper!! I will give him that. Wonder if he pays his FET (Federal Excise Taxes)

James,
Speaking for myself, even though I know that you and LuckyMusky were only joking, your stuff, while sometimes quite numerous in searches, is actually for muskies, and designed and self-marketed by a musky fisherman. In fact, as you know, I've caught my personal best 53" on a Super D last summer. The other stuff that I block is stuff created in China in mass and purchased by someone who is just buying stuff in bulk to sell for profit. Could just as easily be food choppers or Ginsu knives. I sure have no problem with that, but I want to shop in the aisle of the store that holds the stuff I want to shop for. If I want cheap, poorly made merchandise I'll shop for it. You'd never see a tackle shop putting walleye plugs mixed in with musky stuff, and while we all know you can sometimes catch a musky on a wee bait, we sure don't call those musky baits. I'm not so sure any of those bulk baits would stand up to a 30"er. I think it's kind of like if I was selling a Packers jersey on Ebay but in my listing I put "Packers Bears Vikings Giants"
I find it annoying when someone lists Musky in their title along with a bunch of other species just so it shows up in the most search results. It puts that seller in a certain category in my mind, right up there with the guys who sell "Rolex's" or "Gucci" stuff out the trunk of their '79 Buick. Ebay is turning into the online equivalent of a street that's lined with these crap merchants in my opinion. It's still useful but man it's getting harder and harder to dodge all the junk.

If/when Google puts their auction site up (rumors abound) I know they will make it searchable in a way eBay has never thought of and will also have tools to help the buyer "fish" out what they want. I know I am one of a million but I have sent multiple emails to the Google development business center my ideas. I know MuskieFIRST is not an auction site but if they ever had one I am sure they would do a good job too... hint hint Big money in auction sites that are done correctly! Three years ago on eBay you only got 150-200 hits when searching "musky lure" and now its a little over 1000 on most days and like you said, many are 3" or smaller lures. I don't like the eBay problems as it is a big part of my business model but it has gotten to the point where it has me thinking of two other models that may replace it. Just takes time to test them and do the leg work to get them going.

PS-Don't forget to buy some of those Obama spinnerbaits!

well after all this talk and the new link whit put up, i tried bidding again and won an item..it did not have the "paypal account required" on it so i was able to bid. in my searches, i found somewhere in ebay that some categories still accept money orders and checks, motors, boats, adult only, and about 6 other categories..of course not fishing lures..so im just emailing the seller to ask if i can pay without paypal..so i was wrong you can still bid on some stuff as long as it doesnt have the paypal required link on the page.

FYI-I took 5 or 6 MO and Cashiers checks last week myself... According to the eBay specialist I talked with when these rules come out the seller just can't solicit checks in the auction details but if the buyer wants to pay with a check the seller can accept it if they wish to.

Went to e-Bay. On the first page "pink border guy" has 21 out of 50 listings. He has 14 under one seller name and 7 under another name. On the second page he has 17 out of 50 listings. IF you are only allowed 10 listings per page how does the guy get away with this?? Both of his auction sites are EXACTLY the same, there is no question it is the same guy. Is e-Bay that blind?? I used to buy a lot of stuff from e-Bay but I have a hard time visiting their site anymore. They definately need some competition. Hey luckymusky, when you get some lures you want to get rid of, let me know, I might be interested in them. Maybe we can get into a trade.

PS-My eBay account rep just told me "pink border" guys auctions are all in violation. I only found three aliases and he told me they would be acting on them soon. That might remove about 30% of the auctions Most of my bid auctions will be gone in about a week too so it will be cleaned up real good for everyone! For me I am just slowing down a little bit. Staying up til midnight and up at 5am is getting a little old. Plus my kids want a little more of dads time. I told him about having an "ignore seller" button and he said he has heard that may be implemented so we will see. I don't see it happening though myself.

IMO-Best bet for buying new lures at the best prices is just go to Musky Tackle Online. He does not have to fee you to death and already has better prices than most.

Haven't been on e-Bay for a while, because of this problem, decided to check it out today. Pink border guy has settled down a bit, ONLY 15 on the first page and 4 on the second. Tacklebooty has 17 on the first page and 13 on the second page. What happened to 10 per page???? What happened to this problem being taken care of??

Nope, just counted and I have 10 on the first page of 200 hits. I do see some of my lures though being sold used and new by others. As for pink boarder guy, he has 3 or more eBay aliases so with 3 he could have up to 30 on the first page. I see he lost one of his aliases though. Must have got dinged by the eBay police for charging $16 for S/H and selling 6 lures for $0.01. That gets you out of paying fees but will also get your eBay alias kicked off for 30-90 days. I know, I tried it 2 years ago
