Posts: 42 | i bought it for half price on another site, and really like the way it feels on a s.c. avid ac70mhf rod...they just balance well together. i've decided to make it my swimbait rod. it holds 140 yards of 16# diameter braid(65#test). do any of you guys have experience with this reel? i also have a calcutta 250, and i'm curious how they compare with mid sized baits. patrick

Posts: 4343 Location: Smith Creek | The 200 is a little small for big swimbaits, not a bad small bait reel. Be sure not to crank the drag all the way down or you may have anti-reverse issues.

Posts: 443 Location: Duluth, MN | I have 3 of the 300's. Great reels. It would be a good idea to call St. Croix and get a spare antireverse roller clutch...i believe thats what they call it, to keep in your tackle box. 2 of my reels are 3 years old now and last year each one had that go bad. You'll know it's going bad when you give a bulldawg a hard pull and your line goes out like you pushed the button. It's an easy 10 minute replacement. They sent me 2 spares for free. 3 years of very heavy use and thats the only issue i've had. Oh and buy the power handle. Worth every penny.

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | Jim Saric uses the 250 for DCG10 to BULLDAWGS on the MUSKY HUNTER TV SHOW. He told me that he has small hands and the 250 fits his hands just right.

Posts: 415 Location: madison wisconsin | I bought an AC300 last year and love it. Would love to put it on my next rod, but my wife kind of raises her eyebrow now with the economy. Throws 10's great, was really surprised. Worth getting one. They're a daiwa luna, but with st. croix's name on it and a little cheaper also.

Posts: 42 | i'm just going to use them for 6" gambler brutus swimbaits. as far as muskie baits go these aren't that big, but thet are a good all around river bait for trophy smallies and any muskie young and dumb enough to bite me. patrick

I have a couple Millionaire CVX-253a's that are 8 years old and I have not replaced anything but the handles and drag washers.

Posts: 4343 Location: Smith Creek | The a/r has a greater tendency to fail more often on the smaller reels. I'm talking about Luna's and Avids only. I have no experience with millionaires.
