I am switching from 12 to 24 v troll motor. My crestliner fish hawk 1650 has a troll motor plug in. Can I just swap the fuse for a 60 amp fuse and wire my batteries in series and go fishing? OR do I need to rewire and install one of those Minn Kota breakers??? Thanks!

Landry - I don't think it's that simple. What size is the existing fuse? If the existing fuse is smaller - you need to check the wire size. You also need to verify the cabling of the old receptacle versus the compatibility of the plug & cabling of the new TM plug. The new trolling motor should have installation diagram and instructions. Follow them very carefully- it could affect your warranty. Might be good idea to take it to the marina that rigged the original TM.

I am guessing that you will need to upgrade both the wire and the fuse. You will need at a minimum 6ga wire from the receptacle to the batteries. If you have a run of wire more than 12 feet or so I would go with 4ga wire. I would suspect on your Crestliner it probably has 6ga already if it was factory wired. This is definatley something you want to do right. If the wire is too small for the current load and distance to the battery you have a high potential of a fire or your fuses/breakers tripping due to the heat and load. You will want a 60A breaker for the motor. I highly recommend the Minnkota MKR-19 Waterproof breakers that run 40.00.
