Hey guys,

I have a St. Croix Avid with a reel seat that is loose and that shifts around. I assume that problem is something I'll have to have taken care on by sending it in? Any advice would be greatly appreciate, as usual!

You could try injecting some epoxy into the space between the seat and the blank. Is there an exposed spot under the reel? If not you might be better off bringing it in to a custom rod builder, let him play with it. Awful expensive rod to experiment with. Doesn't St. Croix warranty stuff like that on the Avids? Lifetime warranty?

I'm pretty sure St. Croix has a repair shop....not 100% positve, but I think so...I'd call them. A reel seat that came lose sounds like a defect on their part if you ask me...

If they don't or won't, have a rod builder have at it....they could repair it, but it probably isn't going to be cheap (they'd need to take either the guides off, slide the reel seat off, and re-epoxy, then re-tie the guides and epoxy) or (strip the handle off, slide the reel seat off, re-epoxy, then put a brand new handle on)

Send it back to SC, they will take care of it.

You can drill a few holes in the seat under the reel foot, inject the area full of epoxy and that works most of the time. I wouldn't do it on a rod that carry's a warranty like the SC line. IF the epoxy injected trick didn't work, all you have to do is remove the foregrip, slide the seat up and repair/replace the bushings under the seat and re-set the seat. Then install a new foregrip made of multiple parts epoxied together and worked on the rod. It can be done without removing the guides or the rear handle. But like said, on a rod with a warranty SEND IT BACK.

Send it back. The only expense to you will be S&H.

I had a reel seat problem in Oct with a newer Preimer. Called them, they told me to print off a shipping label from their website. Discounted, only $10 for the label (very cheap shipping on an 8'6")
Dropped it off at Fed Ex and 5 days later I had a brand new rod at my door free of charge..

Call them/send it back. They should take care of you.
Even if they want a little to fix it , I rather have them do it, than potentially mess it up myself.
