Location: MN | Wondering if anyone has heard of or experienced tow-away theft of boats and if there are ways to prevent this. I am debating on leaving my boat covered and hooked up to my truck while parked on a city street in the Twin Cities; only on weekends, not all the time. Are there locks available which cannot be cut? Other solutions available? Thanks |

| A boot or boots for the wheels and a hitch lock. They even make a ball hitch lock that has the ball that fits up into the hitch to prevent someone from taking the boat.

Sure...some of these items, such as the wheel boots, can be quite pricey, but...consider it additional "insurance." $400 bux for a wheel boot to protect the investment you have in your boat could be considered a small expense. Figure the cost of the wheel boot as compared to what you have wrapped up in your boat, motor and trailer... |

Location: midwest | If you consider the wheel boot, check with you insurance as there may be some sort of discount for the an anti-theft device. |

Location: Minnetonka | IMO I think you'll be fine w/ one of these badboys. Cheap, easy to use, and cannot be cut, per your request. http://www.masterlock.com/apps/catalog/category.jsp?categoryId=HSL_...
Also, if you have a break-away tongue, pull the pin... pretty tough to tow w/ the tongue broken. Just don't forget to put it back in before you take off!
Hope this helps. |
