If you have a fluro leader and it gets a small nick or srape . . . do you not use it anymore. A friend of mine told me that saltwater guys use them with all kinds of nicks and scrapes on them. That sounds crazy . . . so trash'em or use'em. I usually use single strand titanium but have been thinking more and more about using fluro.

THROW IT OUT!!! Flouro is only about what, 50 cents per foot? One nick and it goes in the bottom of the boat. Cut off your swivels\snaps and reuse those. Not worth the risk keeping it around.

It depends on the length of the leader. I usually tie a little longer leader and can almost always cut off the area with the nick and retie. Saves in the long run.

imo it depends on what lb test you are using...i use 180, little nicks and scuffs don't bother me one bit, now when you hold them up to the light and can see that they are cracked or that the cut is deep then change it..but little scuffs and nicks on 180 does not weaken them one bit...how do i know...i've tested ones with nicks and they held just as well...superficial nicks are not to be worried about...now if i was using 80 and had some nicks that might be a different story, but i use 180 for a lot of reasons..that being one of them.

Thats a tough one! You hate to throw away a good leader! But what if a world record class fish comes along and you lose it because of a $7.00 leader! Your best bet is to replace it I guess!

I've got several 130# flouro leaders with rough spots from contact with rocks and teeth. I've been afraid to use them, even though the damage seems to be pretty superficial...

Brad, do you even use 80#? If so what for? I've been using 130# almost exclusively, and 100# for really small stuff, just because I have a few 100# leaders left. I really haven't found a reason to go with anything less than 130#. Am I missing something?
