Way out or boatside?

On the pause or in motion?

What do you do to get the fish to trigger?

Two weeks ago it's was speed and on the pause. Temps were 68-72. Seen fish and the one I caught was out away from the boat and near the weed edge. Same temps this weekend but the tactic did not work.[:((]

for pike it's usually in the first third of the retrieve or right after the jerkbait lands. I think it's the loud splash that catches their attention rather than spooking them. And if it's willing to eat, it will take the jerkbait. I think about 1 out of 10 of the pike I catch on jerkbaits come at boatside or near the shoreline (when I'm fishing from the shore). But most pike in the first 1/3 of the retrieve.

Jason,

I fish a fair amount of "Burts" when I'm fishing a true jerk bait not a glider. Found they tend to hit it on the pause more than when it's moving or just when it starts to move after a pause..

Here's what's got me a little confused this season...when throwing them I'm seeing fish and having them charge the bait but then they are missing it?? Not sure if they are missing on purpose or just need a pair of glasses [:sun:] to help with depth perception..???

I use Big Daddy's a lot and man sometimes it seems they blast it before it even hits the water! Depends on the day as any one tactic usually changes quickly. I just try to irritate them enough with snapping the shi* out of the bait.
