Posts: 112 | I bought a used jon boat whose previous owner added two nice swivel seats. He bolted some metal brackets on each side of the boat, above the bench seats. The brackets are similar to the drop down brackets that some canoe seats use. He then bolted a solid board, either 2x10 or 2x12 , into the brackets. A nice padded swivel seat is bolted onto each board. You sit relatively high in the boat, well above the benches. Very comfortable. I would take pictures and post them, but the boat is stored 440 miles aways and I won't be there until May. I am thinking about adding the third seat in the middle. First attach some marine-grade plywood (or get plywood and seal it) to the top of your seats. You can do this with "molly bolts." Get some "Swiveleze" bases (they have a hole in the middle for a seat post) and attach them to the plywood. Get "Swiveleze" bases/with posts that attach to the bottom of the seats. The posts on the bottom of the seats fit the hole in the middle of the bases. They will swivel in the base. To remove the seats, all you have to do is pull up on them. Cabelas or Bass Pro sells them. You should be at about the right height without any additional raising of the seats. However, they do sell posts of different heights that fit into the bottom of the seat and the base if you want to raise up a bit. Two suggestions: (you can run a search on the internet for this info) 1. get a book called "Hydrilla Gorilla." It shows how to convert your boat. 2. run a search on "Bass Jons." It is on the Hampden Roads (Virginia) Bass club site. They have a very good section on converting boats with photos. | |||
