Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | I did an inventory of all my equipment two winters ago. I actually hung up all my lures, stood up all my rods and reels, placed all my electronics and downriggers on a table and took pictures of everything I had. I also took inventory of everything, put on my computer and put it all on a disk. Now it's in a fire proof safe at our office. This is something I would recomend to anyone who has a bunch of money in equipment and baits. Just think about how you would try to come up with your inventory if a fire would happen or your stuff would be stolen. Good luck with that. Most of us know what we got but it still will be hard to prove it if you had to. Now I only have to prove what I have got in the last two years in addition to my inventory I did. Get your sfuff together and inventory it. You most likely already have it somewhat stacked up or hung up. Trust me, you will find you might not need as much as you think. Or maybe you will see you need more than your thought since you just went through all your stuff. Great winter plan. You will be glad you did it. You can trust me on that. Location: Sun Prairie, WI | Great idea. It should be done for everything you own, not just fishing equipment. Take pictures of every room...better yet, do a small video of every room. Most digital cameras these days come with video options. Take the pictures or videos of everything then keep it in a safe place as Mike says. If your house and belongings are destroyed, there's no way on Earth you'll remember everything by just relying on memory alone.

i do the same exact thing...hang everything up, take pictures of it all, and write down what it is. plus it's easier to look at the "toys", sharpen hooks, etc. over the winter that way. Attachments ---------------- 002.JPG (204KB - 104 downloads)

Posts: 444 Location: Indiana | I've been doing it since I started. Update it as I go. Doesn't take too much time, and will be invaluable if fire or theft takes everything. Just pull the disk out of the firesafe to prove to insurance what I had. I also keep MSRP and what I paid in hidden columns in excel. So insurance can know what it cost and I can know what I actually paid.

Posts: 1906 Location: Oconto Falls, WI | err, uh, hmmm, I don't have enough room to hang it all up! Been wanting to do this for awhile, but it's a bit overwhelming. I did realize last summer while cleaning my garage that I have way more lures than I thought I did. I even have two rubbermaids full of unopened packages of lures as those ared oubles, triples of lures that are productive for me. Good idea though Xtreme one! It may take me all winter to do it though!

Posts: 122 Location: Kenosha, Wi. | I agree Mike. I've done the same thing and also have an insurance agent who is a musky fisherman also. One nice thing about Tim is that he stops by the house every spring and brings his own camera to take pics when I do. Not only do I have my pictures and video he has a copy for my records also. I work part time at Gander Mtn. and too many times have I seen customers go from area to area trying to remember what they had because they did'nt have any pictures or video for their records.

Posts: 115 | Everyone needs to do it for insurance purposes. Inventory, pictures of everything, and sales receipts for the more expensive items. Depending on the investment, you may even need to get additional insurance to cover your tackle in case of fire or theft. John

Posts: 2753 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Xavier & I do it every year when we prep ESOX Maniac for he muskie season. I usually don't include my other species lures. But probably will this year. It's just a wise thing to do. Al Attachments ---------------- Inventory April 2008.JPG (62KB - 96 downloads)

Posts: 529 Location: Not Where I Want To Be | I do the same thing. It didn't take long to add up 20K between walleye and musky gear and electronics. My insurance man just about had a heart attack. I have a excel spreadsheet that i built that i just add to as i buy and sell equipment. It tally's a grand total $ at the bottom. If anyone would like a blank copy for your own personal use i'll gladly send it to you via email. Just shoot me a pm with your email. Scott
