I was just curious about this. For those of you that fish minnesota mostly I have a ?.
After a season comes to an end what is the average size of all the fish caught in a season?

Also for those who fish minnesota mostly how many 50's did you get this last season?

I averaged 41.625 for the 12 fish I caught this year. Biggest of the season was a fat 47, no 50's for me. There's always next year!

I think comparing Wisconsin size to Minnesota size is apples to oranges. I am much more impressed with a 48 from Wisconsin than a 50 from Minnesota. I love fishing Wisconsin waters. I just view the fish size I catch differently. Also, I think that the scenary in Wisconsin is very nice and that is a part of the experience. I also seem to find less crowds in Wisconsin which is important to me. One of the most fun days I had on the water last season was on a Wisconsin numbers lake. That being said....my boat in Minnesota had about a 43-44 inch average with a lot over 50, but I fish alot on good waters there.

2007 42 fish, 1 over 50. 2008 stunk w/ 34 fish, 2 over 50, with more time on water and fishing big water both years. i would also be curious on some figures for guys in Northern WI, i dont know many people that fish there, but have heard of some real monsters? I Did not get a chance to fish Lake of Woods though...

I was happy to keep good records this year of the 94 muskies in the boat in WI. 3,500 inches of muskie, with an average of 37 inches. And we measured 'em in the net cuz it's way too easy to overestimate. Of course, all the really big ones got away.

Don,
Here are some interesting numbers for you. 2008 season. Put fish in the boat from 10 different WI lakes, 6 MN lakes.
WI fish in the boat = 113.....WI avg size = 37.25"
MN fish in the boat = 55.....MN avg size = 44.17"
WI fish over 45" = 5.....MN over 45" = 11
Zero over 50" in WI, though I did lose one ; ( MN over 50" = 5 so almost 10% of the fish in the net in MN were 50 or better...and we lost some over 50 as well...uuuhhhggg
spent 2 x the hours fishing WI waters as I did MN... hmmmm where should I be using most or all my vacay hours in 2009... ; )
I still love fishing in WI...but there is no comparison to the size structure.
Maybe if I spent more time on GB I would have different numbers for WI.

So you caught 8 less fish but one extra 50+ and the year stunk?

I live in Madison, WI so I fish the Madison lakes often, and yes, the other lakes 6 or 7 of them that I fish are in Vilas/Oneida/Iron

yeah, for sure i would consider fishing more and catching less, w/ overall less action, i would call that "STINKING" and not cool, uh yeah?

Thanks for the invite, Tony! I'm gonna hold you to it if I make the trip out there! Same goes for you, as well. (Though I don't see why a Minn. guy would come to Michigan for muskies )

Thanks for info guys. I was not doing it to compare wisconsin to minesota. I was just looking to see what the average was as someone mentioned a very big(at least to me) average for minnesota and I don't believe its reasonable. None of the replies were as high so thanks.

If your interested my average for wisconsin was just about at 37 also. I really don't go out and concentrate on big fish or go by the moon or anything anymore. I just go fish when I feel like it. This past summer with gas prices high I also fished alot of lakes new to me as they were alot closer then the waters I use to fish for bigger fish
