Posts: 743 | Looking for a rod to rip 6 to 8" twitchbaits. soft enough tip for casting ,but stiff enough for ripping. Don't like a lot of give in the rod when I'm rippin it. Kurt

Posts: 4266 | I know what you mean. I use a "Lip Stick" bu St Croix for crankbaits big and small, and for pulling and twitching Grandmas and Big Games, but if I want to crank it up a notch and rip the lures through and around weeds I still use a 7'6" MH Avid. The only give is in the tip, and the length is perfect for me. Lip Stick has too much give for ripping. Beav

Posts: 8782 | I like a 6'9"H or 6-10"H for that appilcation. A longer rod probably would make the job a LOT easier, but I feel much more in control of the bait with a shorter rod. Longer rods with more flex in the tip just don't seem to have the power to really smash that bait through the water from a dead rise. You do sacrafice some casting ability with a short stout rod, but I need the backbone. (I may be a little agressive with that particular retrieve now that I think about it )

Posts: 388 | St. Croix PM80MHF is awesome for a good rippin rod. Will handle the lighter stuff you are looking at but also has a good amount of backbone for the task. This was my favorite rod last year and I like to throw twitch baits more than anything else.

Posts: 2089 | Loomis Steel 96-20. Gonna rip the 9"-12" stuff? Loomis Steel 96-25. Both built out to 9' of course. Softer tip is key with LOTS of power. The most VERSATILE rods I've ever thrown.

I'm really interested in the Steel... what other rods/blanks do you think are comparable to the 20 and 25? What baits are you throwing with them?
