I use perfection loop knots, they cinch down nicely with LOTS of pressure (I use a pair of screwdrivers through the loops to get what I need. Some fishin' glue in the knot, before it's cinched down can't hurt either but I don't think it's necessary. Just make sure to lubricate (saliva) the knot before cinching.

Lee Tauchen's leader knot is a CENTURI knot, great knot for leaders.

The best knot I have found is a nail knot. Rollie and Helens sells a neat tool to make them easily. It's made by DuBro and around $13.00.

Here's a great animated instructional for the centauri knot. There's a few good ones on there.
