Location: nappanee IN | which one would you use most for jerks and big rubber and the big cranks.
just bought the xxxh last fall but haven't had a chance to throw it and now i see that st.croix has a xhf in the 8-6 length. would the 8-6 work as good as the 7-9 and still be able to handle these big baits ok. karol p.s.s also have a 8ft heavy that i use for double 10's too ..all st croix's |

| Go with the 8'6". The xxxH is a pole vault. The longer rod will handle anything you'll throw. Short and too stiff will lose you fish through no fault of your own. |

Location: nappanee IN | hey steve, any way i can trade the 7-9 which is brand new for a 8-6. should i get hold of st.croix or how would you suggest? i traded for the rod from a local bait shop but didn't get a recipt. am i stuck with a brand new rod or is there hope? thanks karol |

| Check out st.croixrods.com warranty and service. the only way you can get (almost) all your value for the pool cue is to trade up to a big dawg (tm86xhf) which is the rod you want anyway. |

| karol, if the $130.00 plus your new premier pm79xxxhf would get you a legend big dawg tm86xhf then it sounds right since they list that premier for $200.00 and that legend for $340.00 so they are covering the full new dollar amount value of that premier for you! i beleive they will only give you "trade value" if you go up in product quality to the legend vs. across the board say if you wanted the pm86xhf which is the same price @ $200.00 they would not go for that.
P.S. for those out there who have say 4-5 year old premiers, unless croix has changed things since this time last year, they will give you some sort of pro-rated trade-value for your older premiers as well to go up to the legends! they had a deal worked out for me on my premiers until i decided to have keith at pro edge build my legends custom. sell your premier outright and have keith build you a custom legend to your specs!

| I agree... pay the $130. I handled the xxxhf tonight and if it wasn't for the cork and guides I wouldn't be able to tell which end is which. Actually the big dawg is club too, I'd get the slingblade. |

| Threw a Slingblade this Fall and agree. It will handle the rubber fine with a SLIGHTLY softer tip than the "Big Dawg". IMO, more versatile than either of the others you mentioned.

| They call the 7-9 rod "The Jerk" for a reason. It is made for throwing and working jerk baits. If it is equal to any rod, it would be more equal to the 8-6 rod for big rubber. Sling Blade has more tip action in the top 18". I used them both for rubber and had no complaints. Lots depends on the person's preference and their height.
I'm 6-2 and love the 8-6 rods, but I don't know if Jason Smith would like them as much. One thing that I must say, all 3 of those rods have made it much easier for me to use the lures that they were designed for. Especially on the cast. Lots of thought went into the engineering of the blanks used for the casting of bigger, heavier lures. You'll notice it on the first cast with any rod from the line-up. Oh yeah, to answer your question, the 7-9 is for jerk baits. If you want one rod for both applications, you have it already. It's kind of hard to work gliders with the 8-6 because you're slapping the water constantly. It would be OK for big, heavy jerk baits, but the Slingblade would be the best rod for a multitude of applications....straight-reel top waters, big cranks, jerks and gliders, bucktails, spinnerbaits and rubber. Hook set will be no problem either. I think that I stretched a few fish last year.

| mr. beaver, since you are on the croix pro staff, where does their bass mega swimbait blank rate in your opinion vs. the other croix legend blanks?

| Haven't had a chance to have it in my hands yet.
I'm hoping that there will be more than muskie gear at the show this weekend. Then again, with something like 300 rods in the catalog, it's tough to carry them all around. |

Location: Smith Creek | I've casted the ltbc80xhf and yeah, its rated 3-8 oz but it feels more like a ltm80mhf than a hf or xhf in the muskie series. totally different blank. great for med sized bucktails and topwaters, though. |

Location: Smith Creek | Yeah, I have, and I now use the LTBC as my spring muskie rod. I think it can handle 8 oz but I definitely wouldn't exceed that. Great twitchbait, bucktail rod, but not near as beefy as the muskie rods with the same lure ratings. |

| thanks mr. flambeauski...it amazes me how many st. croix "pro-staffers" have never used the bass mega swimbait legend blank for muskies...oh well! i agree...that blank is fantastic and can throw 1/2 oz bucks up to maybe 6-7 oz whatevers great but above that the legend big dawg blank, in my opinion, is the one!
what exactly is a "pro-staffer" anyway...?
