Location: SouthWest PA | I am looking at buying a new Trolling Motor for the Bow of my boat. I want to stay under $750, if at all possible. Any ideas or suggestions?
How about Hand vs. Foot control?
My boat is a 17ft deep V - What Lbs Thrust should I look for? |

| personally I would call your local Minn Kota dealer and see if they get the list of "factory reconditioned" units. they are basically new and come w/ the warranty, I have 2 of them that work flawless....If so, I would go with a 70 lb Powerdrive with autopilot...you should be right at 700-800 dollars...foot control for sure if you are musky fishing.

| I've had several minn kotas, and while they have been pretty good, I'd shop around next time. I have the Terrova now, and while it is powerful and hasn't given me any grief so far, the pedal is a bit bulky. I am intrigued by the thought of a remote pedal. Do they take AA's? Rechargable? I have the co-pilot for mine to reduce pedal time, but really would love a cordless pedal. |

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | I use the same Motor Guide as Steve Worrall stated above. My experience has mirrored his, basically the motor has been bullet-proof. The remote pedal works on lithium batteries and in two years I have not had to replace them. |

| Reefer...I noticed in the cabelas catalog Minn Kotas saltwater line has a PD w/ autopilot and you can get a cordless footpedal...80 lb, 24 volt...
it's white which is kinda lame, but it would be a smaller foot pedal than the terrova...
until another company can come up with a feature like auto pilot which saves at least 50% of the dancing around and turning on the foot pedal i will never own another ... |

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | After years of Minn Kota use, I rigged a MotorGuide wireless on my current rig. I could not be happier. For the first time ever, I went a complete season without a TM issue. I take that back, I did have to change the battery in my pad once (a watch battery to answer reefer's question). I won't hesitate to rerig a Motor Guide on my next boat. |

Location: On my favorite lake! | If you can get a minnkota Autopilot. I would really consider it. I love mine. It is great when fighting a fish because you can have the boat automatically keep its heading away from trouble. It is also fantastic in rough waves. I point it and it auto corrects if the wind blows the boat off course. |

Location: Marshfield, WI | Here is a website that sells factory reconditioned trolling motors. I got one from there about 8 years ago and it was $275 cheaper than bass pro. I got a Minn Kota Maxxum. Only thing I don't like about it is that the foot pedal is so big.

Location: Kodiak, AK | I have a Terrova, and it's been great. I got the Co Pilot wireless remote and that's the only way I fish. It's so nice to be able to fish the stern, or still be able to controll the boat with a fish on or while putting a sock out or whatever. I carry the foot pedal in case something happens to the remote, or I drop it. But it's never given me the first problem, and it's a great feature. |
