Posts: 390 Location: Ohio | Anyone have any experience with a retactable butt rod? Pro's / Con's? I got some Bass Pro Gift Cards for Christmas and was thinking of getting one. And if possible can someone post a pic? Thanks Edited by Trolling Thunder 12/26/2008 11:36 AM

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | I have used Tica and Okuma retacable rods with no issues. This last year its been mainly the Okuma. I love the rod. I'm not sure if a picture of a Maina rod will help you. Just what do you want to look at? Attachments ---------------- mainarod.jpg (35KB - 172 downloads)

Posts: 390 Location: Ohio | I was trying to get a idea of how far it retracted, how it would fit my hands, etc. I have small hands and was wondering about fit. Thanks

Posts: 100 Location: W-PA | It only retracts about 6". Decent rod for the money. If you can handle other muskie rods, I don't think you would have a problem with it. Edited by cband 12/26/2008 1:30 PM

Thanks Please explain to me how a picture would help you to see how it fit your hands? I think you would have to go to a Bass Pro to feel it to do it justice and I don't think any picture will ever help you.

Well, the St. Croix handles are a little large for my liking, I have other Maina Rods and was wondering if the retractable handle was bigger in diameter. Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | So why not ask for MEASUREMENTS rather than a picture? I would think that someone should be able to help you out. I can tell you that my Okuma (EVX-c-861XH-T) the rear grip is about 1.2 (just under 1 1/4) and the fore grip is 1.23 which is a little closer to that 1 1/4. Hope this helps you out.

Posts: 238 | I went to Bass Pro today and noticed all Mania rods are now 119$ which I think are the same price as the Okumas. Hope this helps out!

Posts: 102 Location: Bowling Green, KY | I have 2. The handles are exactly the same size as my 7.5' Maina rod. They retract about 6", almost not much point to it really, though it does seem to aid in not poking the ceiling.

I wanted to see what it looked like. I live 4 hours from the nearest Bass Pro. Thanks for the replys.

Posts: 233 Location: Iowa | I have two of the tica 8'6" XH and have had no problems with them. When they are retracted they just under 7' in length and I think they are pretty light for the length of the rod. Jeremy Edited by jwelch 12/28/2008 4:06 PM

Forget about the retractable ones. Get the two piece...either 8 1/2 or 9 footers They Mania's are great rods for the money, and the breakdown ones will fit in your backseat. They have great feel and are durable as anything. My brother casts his pounders with his 9 footer. The mania two pieces also load up great for hooksets. My two cents.
