I have been fly fishing for awhile and it is very fun, you should give it a try. Also if you do get into fly fishing I would recommend tying your own flies it will save you some cash.

I love fly fishing for muskies. My brother in law and I used to do it quite a bit. I've kinda slacked off though the past couple of seasons. I'm definitely chucking some flies again this year as it's a blast getting them on a fly rod. I do tend to do it more in the spring time than any other time, though I know some guys that do it successfully year round. Fun way to get slimed.

Every time I tried it, I crashed.

Used to have a 12 weight, and caught a couple, and alot of nice Pike. Not sure what happened to that rod, one day it just went bye bye.

The wind is always a blowin' when I go out, so it never happens. I've caught a few pike on streamers though and they're a blast. Maybe the 09' season will find me chasing them with a fly.

JKahler,

Keep trying in the wind. I thought it was near impossible until I tried different things. Weighted line, sinker, heavier fly, etc. You can fish in windy conditions.

Here's a link to my friends you tube video. He own Tight Lines Fly Shop in DePere and they were fishing with Larry and Wendy Mann up in Hayward.

All conditions have different techniques. Bonefishing in the Bahamas is never not windy... but it is one of the great destinations. Proper casting techniques and equiptment are key, and I think that fly fishing for 'skis is possible the whole season. The biggest plus is size of fish becomes way less important since the gear is generally so much lighter.

I have begun exploring this technique and have a caught one one each of the last two seasons on a fly, it is a ton of fun and a great challlenge.

I fly fish exclusively. I don't own any conventional tackle anymore, and I got myself stationed on Lake St. Clair purely for the muskies.

I advise tying your own flies as well, but not because it's cheaper, because often it's not. I see guys selling flies on ebay and in Cabela's for about what I can tie them for. I tie because I enjoy it, and because they don't sell flies like what I use. You'll mostly see large Clousers, Deceivers and EP flies, all of which work well. I use them occasionally, but I like to use blades, lips and alot more flash than you typically see on flies available.
