| I have avoided fishing the mid day periods during high pressure ridge weather because of the 'cold front' conditions. I see quite a few mentions on the How Many Follows thread of action under these conditions. What is your experience with JUST post cold front conditions? |

| unbelievably- last week the majority of our action came in the early afternoon on bright sunny days- between 12 and 2 PM- the first day was a pre-cold front day - calm and hot- bright sun... and we got 3 quick fish in an hour and a half... the next day was a post cold front- but same time of day- strong westerly wind- bright sun- great chop- and we nailed 3 fish in row all within 2 hours again- but i have to admit- the fish weren't very big at all... just average size(all were low 30's...) maybe those weather conditions turn off the bigger fish and allow the smaller fish to feast a little... or maybe that is just what happened last week... maybe it was an unusual couple days...
just a side note- my meteorology knowledge is lacking- but i think the first day i described was a high pressure air mass- and the second was post cold front... but i could be wrong... |

| Steve,
Like you my success has been limited on the first bright sunny day after a cold front. My believe is that the fish are still tight to structure and if it's a severe front I've found them on deeper structure (all of this relative to your body of water of course) and for whatever reason are quite reluctant to eat. I have had some success with smaller baits but not enough to call it a "pattern" yet.
I'm not sure what the answer is..this spring has proved some exceptions but heck when its 90 one day and 54 the next with water temps jumping all over sooner or later the fish still get hungry and have to eat.
My .02cents....smaller baits and put it right in front of them, that's the best I've got for now..

| I usually break out the Creature rod under these conditions. Mark, are you tossing smaller crankbaits, or jigs, or both plus something else? Are you twitching the cranks, or straight retrieve? |

| Ok, maybe I'm messed up or something, but every single muskie I have ever caught (5) has come on a bright sunny day. I fish all weather, but on cloudy days I just don't seem to do as well. I have caught fish on everything from a rapala j-13 to a 10" jointed believer on these sunny days. One thing I do do is fish fast. Maybe that has something to do with? I have no idea, anyway it is only 5 fish, but it is all my fish. |
