I've always been a big fan of the Top 10 lure lists on the board, but thought we'd throw an extra twist to it: when and where do you use each of these? I'll throw a few of mine out there just to show what I'm talking about here....

9" Grandma - over open water or rocks deep and shallow. i work them pretty aggressively, so i'm throwing the gradma when i feel the the fish are going to be moving and biting aggressively.

11" Curly Sue - open water, any rocks, deeper weed lines. if the fish are going fast, slow, or barely throwing themselves....i'll throw the curly pretty much any time.open w

11" Suzy Sucker - open water, rocks, deeper weeds. this bait makes the liost, but is mostly used when the fish aren't showing themselves and i'm looking to drag a deep follow over to a live sucker hanging over the side.

not sure if I can come up with ten good ones, but here goes:

Bulldawg deep for deep weed edges fishing slowly along the edge. Kinda ket it swim straight in with a few stops where it starts diving, then rip it back up. I like these on any deep edge where fish are in a neutral mood.

Bulldawg Shallow for shallow residual weeds in November. Worked like the standard Suick retrieve. This has put a few nice fish in my boat over the last several years.

Topraider worked slower than normal due to water temps below 50. Who says they won't eat on top after turnover?

Windels Muskie Snacks fished rather quickly and erratically. It darts randomly when ripped, be prepared for a fish to crush one. I use these in and around dying weed edges that still have a few green patches of cabbage. They also are very stealthy when you're sneaking a bait into a weed clump from twenty feet away, Very underrated bait .

Cowgirl, fast in sept until the temps and the fish dictate that it's time to slow it down. I never do the slow rolling, letting the bait get down. I am looking for some monsters in the milfoil, and I reel it as slow as will allow me to stay above the remaining weeds.

Shallow Invader trolled just outside the areas where the fish were supposed to be that morning, but have disappeared. Even a few fish on them LATE November out in the middle of nowhere it would seem, but then you see the schools of crappies erupting ten yards away, and it all makes sense.

Tiger Tube for really neutral days when you can't get any fish excited. Whip it out and let it drop to the bottom, then a long lift off the bottom and a few studdered rotations of the reel handle. lift and drop with an ocassional struggle. Has worked for me when nothing else did.

Suick worked in the last green cabbage patches is almost a sure thing. Every year I get one, or flat out miss one on my chewed up chartreuse with black spots Suick. How this bait still works is beyond me.

Slammer Deep Minnow, trolled 3-4 mph along 15ft to 20 ft weed edges. Has caught a few in my boat lately, and will catch a few more before the year is thru.

I guess I can't forget the 10" Jake. Just troll one along dropoffs near main lake areas. Really not a better overall trolling bait in the fall, I think.

There I came up with ten. They've all worked over the last few years, some have worked better than others, but they work every fall. Good Luck.

Gliders- Mine and HR's. Everywhere I can throw them. Lots of pauses. The colder it gets, the slower I get, and go for the 10"ers with longer glide time and then a dead stop.
Minnow lures- Big Games, Jakes, Grandmas- everywhere there are fish in the water.
Rubber- Curly Sues- The more that I fish these, the more I like them. Great for old folks like me.
Suicks and big Sand Cats- some times the dive/rise action is what they want. Pull/snap/snap/pause....wham!
2 ounce spinnerbaits- Home made with a big single blade, 4 skirts and a 6" trailer. Flutter them down and slow roll them and bump into anything that you can. It's nothing new, bass fishermen have been going to big slow-rolled spinnerbaits in the fall since I started to fish.
Weagles- because they are top water gliders.
Legend Out-Casts- Lob it out and crank it in. No need to get fancy. Another old man lure.
And boxes of cranks for trolling- the ultimate old man lures. Believers, big ones, Depthraiders and lots more. Big and small, flat and round, mix 'em up.

Here are a few I can think of................

Manta - dead calm conditions, weeds 5 ft to 15 ft. I use the 8 inch in the spring and the hang 10 the rest of the year. I really like to work these over thick milfoil.

Double Cowgirl - Heavy Overcast, slow rolling it over deep sandgrass and rocks. Any time of year.

single bladed bucktails - I use these anytime and anyplace. Have caught fish casting weedlines, shallow weedbeds, deep flats, and trolling deep rocks and sandgrass.

Super D's/ Bull Dawgs - I use the smaller versions in the spring and switch to the magnums once the water warms up. I like to let the baits sink to the desired depth and rip, pause, rip them back to the boat.I will fish these over any deep structure. These are the only baits I can catch fish with in the heat of summer.

Jackpot - I use this as a throwback lure in shallow water.

Jake's - I use these after turnover on any kind of structure.

Bulldawg- Oct/Nov- jigging while drifting current. I use em on deeper rock breaks as well..count down and slow dying retrieve.

Triple D- Oct/Nov Rock breaks, Crank down then slow retrieve with long 2-4 second pauses.

Jake - mid oct/Nov- Trolling breaks 3-4mph over the 15-35' secondary with pauses every couple minutes. I make sure to put slack in the line when pausing, this makes the bait swing to a rising stop. ...of course smashing em into the rocks on the primary break can't be beaten too.

Super Believer- Anywhere, anytime.

1 through 10: Suckers. Easy to fish with and I can work on homework while one hangs over the side of the boat.

1)Violent Strike Mag Willow Spinnerbait- Slop, heavy cover, in the stuff
2) Weagle- any time, any water, if i think they will go on the top
3) Rumbler- Top of the slop, noisy presentation when they are 'going' on the flats, long casts, cover lots of water
4) Nut Buster/Violent Strike 10/8-10 Spinnerbait- Edges and weeds that allow a big bait to run right through but too thick for a bucktail, slow roll the depths
5) Wabull/ Perka- Glider that isn't, walk the top, pop it into pockets, late season slow forward yet fast donw/up/sideways, all structure, any time of day; Perka when I want more side to side and less erratic behavior out of the lure
6) Mojo XX- Wake 'em up on the stones and over the cover, no brainer
7) Slammer/Big Game/Cranks, twitch baits, 4 to 15' of water, rip 'em, make 'em look
8) Soft plastics, I lean toward creatures
9) Topper Stopper- Anytime I want to cover water with a metal on metal buzzer, wood body
10) Violent Strike Mag Buzzer- Pads, heavy weeds, slop, REALLY nasty stuff nothing else will go through.

For all the muskies I've boated the last few trips, I might as well be fishing with a tuna can.
