Posts: 7036 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Yes, I believe they did. January 10th, Saturday night of the Chicago Muskie Show at Harper College in Palatine, IL. We're doing the same location of the swap meet (Official's Time Out in Hoffman Estates, IL) and same time (7PM) with the food drive associated. More details to come as we get closer to the date.

Posts: 32 | I'd love to do a live remote broadcast of The Fishing Fanatics radio show from the pub. It would be a blast. Who is the contact person at the pub to see about arranging it if you guys are interested? Edited by Fishing Fanatics 11/19/2008 10:30 AM

Posts: 7036 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Dave, What do you need to onsite to make this happen? Basically, the swap meet is in a large banquet hall type room. There are a couple dozen tables that are filled by people selling/trading lures. The event starts at 7PM, but people start filtering in at about 6PM, and will be filled with upwards near 250 people by 7:30.

Posts: 32 | A power source and a phone line. I will also need to get the okay from the Radio station bosses. If they have some sort of sport running on air at the time we couldn't do it. But the actual set up for road shows is pretty easy. Oh yeah a table and a couple of seats as well. Edited by Fishing Fanatics 11/19/2008 1:34 PM

Posts: 7036 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Power source....as in a wall plug? I'll call them about the phone line, but I would surmise that there is some sort of phone jack in the wall somewhere in the room.

Since it appears that all the Burmeks have found homes over the years, I would like to add a replacement rule to the swap, no Twin Fins allowed!

Posts: 7036 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Will Schultz - 11/20/2008 10:14 AM Great deal - Expect boxes of food once again. Yes yes!!! I need to work with someone to find new/better ways to promote the food drive aspects of the swap meet. We collected far too little last year.

Posts: 8775 | How about charging admission? Admission being that you must bring one non-perishable food item in order to attend? (Non perishable means NO, a chicken wing from the bar can't be considered as a donation)

(Non perishable means NO, a chicken wing from the bar can't be considered as a donation) To maintain our style of never charging a cover for attending the event, but in ourr attempt to make this a much bigger fund raiser, this year we're going to give out raffle tickets to all of those who bring non-perishable food items (so no, the chicken wing probably wont cut it). We're hoping to bring in many more prizes and will again make it such that more food items donated means more raffle tickets!

Posts: 7036 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | We will be announcing more details in the next week, but suffice to say we're going to work hard to get some great raffle prizes....so start your shopping for food donation items!

I have created and started a food drive in our area called "FREEZE OR FAMINE". The idea is that we(anglers and hunters) erect shanties on the frozen lake and demand food donations from the public and businesses. Businesses and individuals challenge each other. We do not leave the ice until we have met our quota. This year, we have attracted many celebrities and politicians to join in this cause. If you would like more information and a copy of the model you can email me. This is an original idea created by me, to do our part in helping food banks, shut-ins and homeless people. Location: Illinois | Slamr, My musky club, Midwest Musky Club, has our monthly meeting on the Thursday night (Jan.8) prior to the swap meet. We are coordinating a food drive in association with our speaker for that Month, Mike Hulbert. $5 or 5 canned food items at the door. Any money gained will be used to buy more non-perishables before the Saturday night swap meet. I'll bring whatever my club collects with me Saturday night. If I win a prize with the earned tickets, it'll go onto our raffle table for our annual fundraiser in March. There are several other musky clubs who have their January meetings on the 8th (FRV, QCHH). I encourage the Illinois Musky clubs in the surrounding Chicago area to join along and do the same. Get on board with the MuskiesFirst Swap Meet/Food Drive and let's help those less fortunate! It's time to remember our non-finned friends, isn't it? Mike Witowski

Posts: 360 Location: Tinley Park. Fish Cen IL. Bass & Vilas Cty.Muskie | How about having a honor 10% donation by the door. I am not talking about having a table right in the doorway, maybe about 10 feet away. 10% of what you sold or bought goes towards the food bank. If your a seller- 10% of total sold or If you are just a buyer 10% added on to your total. I am sure the food pantry knows better what they need than someone bringing some old cans.

Location: Illinois | Sounds good on paper, but it's not easily organized. The food pantry will be happy to receive our canned beans, no doubt! If you want to take it on yourself to get top notch canned goods, that's up to you. The idea is anything helps. I'm suddenly motivated to volunteer at a Soup Kitchen this Winter. I've done it a while ago and it's a good experience. Opens your eyes!

Thanks to everyone for their efforts towards finding ways to add more to the raising of food stuffs to bring to the food pantry. Let me reiterate however that we are NOT going to be taking any money in donations nor will we now or ever be charging anyone to either enter or sell at the swap meet for either our own gain or to profit any charities. What people can do, and we ask you very sincerly to do, is to get the word out not only about the event, but about the fundraising efforts! Please remind your friends not only to go, but to make sure to bring something to donate to the food pantry. We have Okuma donating some great prizes, and Tacklebooty Industries has stepped up with some raffle items, but if you are a manufacturer small or large of muskie related items, please contact me to see how you can get involved. Again: no cash, bring food items and please tell others to do so also.
