Location: New Jersey | What air temps do you guys stop using graphite rods. I have heard of them getting brittle in the cold but what is cold exactly????

Location: Roscoe IL | I still use them till close. Call it lucky but I have yet to break one as a result of cold air. I'm sure if I keep it up I'm going to sing a different tune...
I do have a fiberglass Fig Rig & love using it. It is a bit heavy but makes for a perfect sucker rod. Now worries when casing a pounder either anytime of year. |

Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | All fall long. I did learn my lesson with Avid's though. Thin walled rods will have issues, but any Premier or Gander rod will be fine. |

| Don't ever stop using them unless I want a slower action such as for trolling. Graphite is an inert material that does not get affected by any temperatures that we would ever fish in on the face of the Earth. Graphite is used for high tech airplanes that fly at high altitude where the temp. is probably -100 or more and they don't break.
IMHO the "graphite breaking in the cold" is just an old wives tale. |

Location: Hugo, MN | All I have is graphite and in 16 years of fishing I have yet to break a single rod. I don't think most rods are affected, but the high end thin walled blanks are for some reason the ones you hear about breaking more often than others. I'll keep pushing my luck because I like my graphites better than my fiberglass trolling rods. Looks like I'll be testing the graphites in some cold weather this weekend again. Snow and low 20's saturday AM. We'll see. |

Location: N.FIB | I`ve never had a rod break yet either,fishing in below 30 temps down south a few years ago I was trolling and my eyelets foze up without knowing it,I got a snag and the rod bent over bigtime before it broke the ice and it didn`t break.I think cheaper poles are the problem,or if you have a few too many chips in the pole. |

| The only graphite rods that break on me are Fig Rigs, but that is not from cold air... |
