Posts: 40 Location: United States | In a total of less than 4 days of fishing, I have broken the same rod twice - Lamiglas LGM80XH. The rod is rated for lures 1 to 8 ounces. I broke the rod the first time with a Mag Dawg (6 ounces according to Musky Innovation website) and the second time with a Kickin Minnow (5.5 ounces). I was even being more conscious the second time around and trying to "lob" cast instead. This is my first Lamiglas rod and in part I did purchase Lamiglas due to the Limited Lifetime Warranty. My friend had an old Lamiglas rod break was treated fairly and so far with me Lamiglas has stood behind their product. However, it appears that I know have a rod that cannot handle the applications I intended - larger bucktails and plastics. Is anybody else having similar experiences with this rod? | Sorry to hear of your troubles. If you intend to throw big plastics, I wouldn't suggest to use a rod rated only up to 8 oz. I use a rod that is rated up to 40 oz. and I can throw pounders all day long, and mag dawgs like they are a spring bulldawg, lol. Your rod sounds like it might make a good topwater/medium sized bucktail rod. You have an XH that is only rated to 8oz? I will add in there. Casting big plastics is more of a lob cast IMO. If you are putting an extra snap in the rod tip, you will be putting more stress on the rod tip. The lob cast also seems to foul the lure less as well in my experience. Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | i had a guy in my boat this summer who broke two of that same rod in one night ... there is a problem with that rod and not the way you are using it. call Lamiglass or their reps. and make them fix the problem.

Posts: 7115 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | I've used Lamiglas rods for years and yes they do break. But, like stated above, the company has a great return policy. On the other hand, as great a rod as Lamiglas makes (sensitivity, castability) I think that their rating system for bait weights as been off for many years. I wouldn't use that system to tell you whether or not you should be throwing a certain lure. If it feels too heavy to cast, I wouldn't do so. Also, doesn't a mag dawg weigh something like 10oz?

Posts: 190 | I have a question does it break on a wrap? If a wrap is to tight it doesn't give the rod enough room when you load it up. Hence leading to an explosion under the guide wrap. Just curious

Posts: 2686 Location: Hayward, WI | It does sound like the ratings are a little bit off. When you are talking to them about a replacement, I would maybe bring this up. Ask if there is a specific lure range that may be more suitable to the rod than what is listed. They may not know the rating is an issue unless enough people bring it up. Slamr, not to be the "specification natzi," but I think a Mag Dawg is closer to 6 ounces - really not that heavy. Not something that should give a rod rated to 8 ounces a problem. curleytail

Posts: 81 Location: NEW | I've been busting that rod or one very like it for nearly 20 years. My 1st one was a "Tony Rizzo Signature Series" and it broke on the first cast. I also broke a LGM80 H on a magdawg this spring.I'm on my 5th one and the latest one they let me upgrade to the LGM 86 HX and I'm just using it for trolling. For what it's worth, I've also got an old "Figure 8 Special" that I bought around 1989 and I've used it so much that its going to need new cork for the 3rd time before next summer. They are real good about servicing and warranty but what good is it if breaks constantly? Good luck.
