Anyone know when these will be out? I see some information once in a while but nothing for a while. I have some of the current ones and if the new ones are better, wow! Can't wait and thanks for any info.

Coming soon Jerry. I had a slight bump with the harnesses. They are great as you can see in the picture below of the MEGA-D. As you can see I made the entire structure of the coil harness surrounded by a coil to really lock those big bodies on so they won't fall off. All sizes have this new coil configuration vs the two coil harness in my current SuperDs. Figured, why not!?! Real happy about that but I tried to make them too light for my shallow versions and the amount of lead in the head is inadequate to hold the entire harness together. In other words, when I tested the harness for strength with 100lbs of weight attached to the back hook area and hanging the rig from the nose loop it failed. Well, it failed when I grabbed the weight and tugged I figure it was about 150lbs that made it fail. Not good so I am actually going to redesign the body slightly so I can shed some more plastisol and then use that "saved" weight to add more lead to the harnesses. Also doing a few other things to it as long as I am tweaking it. I figure if its not out for Fall 2008 I might as well take my time and get any little things tweaked on it that I can before 2009. I hope it is out in Jan/Feb 2009. It would be nice to have for the shows but I won't release them if they are not up to par. I have a few buddies that love to break my prototypes and then laugh at me. If I can give them a lure and they don't laugh at me then I know I did an OK job...lol As for the colors, 43 colors and I only have to work on 2 right now to get the pigment mix right. They look killer! Some totally new colors for swimbaits I hope everyone likes too. Lots of good colors. All of the new ones besides 4 are customer requests. The 4 that are not were screw-ups but they looked really cool so I kept them. All 4 have a really funky looking chrome plastisol in them with other colors mixed in. I also had 2 customers tell me the split rings were no good on their SuperDs. Not sure about this as I have over 15,000 SuperDs out right now but I still took them seriously and made new split rings too. They new ones are monster triple split rings. They are very tough (not that my current ones are not). I just like to make sure. Also, some guys have said after a few hits and boated fish the nub on the harness in the back likes to poke through. I had this happen to me after fish number 7 out of 13 this year in Canada on one SuperD. So, I got rid of that nub and made the tails slightly thicker in the ass area of the SuperDs. And last.....15% harder plastisol for all lures!!! It feels great! My current I think are fine but I have had some comments that it could be harder like the old school Bulldawgs from about 6-7 years ago. I had some 25%-30% harder prototypes but at that point the tails seemed to not move as well. With the 15% harder plastisol I do not see any difference. Thanks for liking the lures! Can't wait to hear comments on the new ones when they come out. I think you guys will have a hard time faulting the Generation III SuperDs!!!!
Thanks,
James
Picture 1 is of an internal harness of the new MEGA-D
Picture 2 is of a few MEGA-Ds pilled on top of some regualr 5oz size SuperDs. As you can see they are big! Trying to keep the weight between 11.5oz and 14oz.

But Fred, you said you don't like to throw the big stuff so I have gone out of my way to make a light weight big lure just for you!!! I know one guy last winter that actually built in tackle boxes all around his gunnel on his boat. He sent me a picture and it looked real cool. Not sure how he secured them for rough rides but he said they all stayed put and also did not rattle around much so he must have also had some way to "pressure" them in when the tackle doors were closed. Driving around teh lake in your tackle box??? Sounds interesting

If I could make a suggestion, I would like to see a heavy duty split ring on the nose of the bait. Not a triple, but a quality, strong regular split ring.

As for the split ring, they are super strong. I specified stronger material and bigger gauge.

As for the shallows, I will have a shallow regular and a shallow MEGA-D. I wanted a shallow Mag but once you take off that much lead on the head it becomes very weak plus it does not drop the weight much. The drop rate was really close so I did not just want to label one as a shallow and not have it perform much different than the heavy. If these go well I may have a new body mold made for the Mag and taper the body to remove more plastisol and then it would still have the same width belly to glide but of course less weight. Right now though I have way too much money into the current molds and production. My baby steps are leaps to say the least when building lures and coming out with colors. I have a bass lure coming that normally comes in 5-8 colors and I started my line up with 23 colors (11 different trouts/salmon alone!) and if they sell well it will go to 42 colors. I think the pike and musky guys will like them too. 8" swimbaits and you can bomb cast them a mile! They are like bullets. May have some really light ones of those out soon too.

I need these MEGA-D's to come out sooooooooooooon. Haha, I'm really looking forward to these as we've had luck on the Mag, but the Pounders really seemed to outproduce them in terms of big fish ratio. I'm really sick of "surgery" on the Pounders everytime I use them now (as they've all been eaten several times), but I can't afford to buy new ones at $30-33 a crack.
Really looking forward to these James!!!

P.S. Thanks for always keeping us customers informed on all the changes/news on your baits and also for answering all questions directed towards you on the boards. It's great to know that someone cares greatly about their customers and products. (Not saying that other ppl aren't, as Andy at ShackAttack is a great guy)

James, STOP IT! Really, please stop posting about all of the improvements you have made to the baits, and MOST DEFINATELY stop posting glimpses now and then of the new baits and colors you will be offering. I am already doing mental math to figure out how much money I can set aside to buy your new baits. By the looks of things, I will need at least one Mag and MEGA in each color you are coming out with. Should pretty much send me into poverty.

Seriously, I CAN'T WAIT to get my hands on these new baits. The Super D's I used this summer worked very well, these sound like they will be a lot better. I'm excited to see the harder rubber, elimination of the nub, etc. They should be great.

I want to see them NOW, but do take your time getting them right. Glad you are more worried about doing things right rather than getting them out as soon as possible.

Thanks for the updates,

curleytail

James,

Hi its nice to finally meet the man who made the bait I won my first tournament with. I was using a Super D this past weekend on the Fox Chain in IL. My question to you is do you make a shallow running version and do you make a smaller version than the 5oz. model? Again thank you so much for a wonderful product. It is now the only plastic I own. Because of its durability and fish catching abilities these lures have become a staple in my fishing arsenal.

Have had the larger rubber baits work off the snap through the split ring. No split ring on the big heavies for me. These baits have all had "Bucher" rings, purported to be tops in the industry as well.Learnin' the hard way for your benefit. Steve

Thanks guys! Hunter4-I had about 10 teams this year get 1st through 3rd on my SuperDs. 2nd place in one of the biggest musky tournaments in 2008 was taken with the use of the SuperDs. Honestly I did not expect the pros to use my lures so much this year. Nice to see results coming in like that though!

Steve, I hear you on the nose rings. I like the split rings on the nose of most of my other lures but not the big ones. How has your box of baits held up? If I know you they are all gone and shreaded from so many fish! lol

Look good and I should buy one for myself.....I never try Bull Dawg or Super D, etc....big reason is that I don't buy it because what if a musky bite a tail off then $13 to $16 gone! Do they have speical tail for replace?

I think Andy from Shack Attack sells the replacment tails. I may offer some and just do a real easy 3or4 tails in a pack for $5 or something. Just have the base 5 colors. Maybe even do a 5 color pack for $5 and keep it real easy.

That would be a nice addition to your line of lures (i.e. replacement tails). I've got some for my favorite Curly Sues and really appreciate that Andy went to the trouble to make them. Made me a happy customer!

Good thing about Andys tails is that they will melt/glue onto most plastisol lures. I just looked on his site thoguh and don't see them listed anymore???

I didn't see the tails on Andy's site either so I emailed him abut them. He said he sells the tails 4 to a pack of all one color per pack. He sells them for $7.99 a pack and can do most any color.

Baitmaker, that's the address I used too. I think it took him a little while to get back to me, but I don't think it was a month. You might try sending him a private message on here too. I don't know how much he's been on here lately, but I messaged him before and that worked too.

He has a phone number on his site too - 847 525 6677 . Maybe try that?

But James, Im slowly graduating from the smaller, common Southern baits.A musky is a musky no matter where it's at, right?I realize forage base has alot to do with it,but not all fish want to eat little niblets to get full.I sometimes wonder if im using too small when I can catch Crappie on 6" baits.I hope one day to live up north and not have to worry about size again.(This has nothing to do with my wife)....

LOL Fred! My wife says I am making up for other deficiencies when she looks at my lures. I think she is kidding!?!

PS-I ahve seen and caught some of your crappies. I think some could take down a lot bigger lure than a 6" bait!

I like some of them colors, also was wondering if the size of the 5oz and 8oz are the same, just different weight,or is the 5oz smaller size than the 8.Are you gonna have the new colors in all sizes.

I had the big MEGA-Ds out today for a run. The 11.5 "Shallow" just hangs there! Looks great. Drops about 8" per second and the big one (13oz) drops about 12"-13" per second. I do not have the right rod for these but my Muskie VIP H 8'6" did a good job for them today. I need a new rod!
