All, Big Game Tackle Co. will have a new line up as of feb 09. The new lure bodys will be made of polystyrene. The 5, 7, and 9 inchers will be out first. The 6, 8, and 12 will soon follow. The good thing about polystrene is unlike balsa it doesn't soak up water then split! Hook pointers, hook rubs, and tooth holes don't matter becaues polysterene don't soak up water then split. I've been working on this line up for 3 years to get them to have the same fish catching ability. They wil be stainless steel through wire construction, New and improved stainless steel split rings and be avaliable in 8 colors. Sincerely, Tony Spicker Big Game Tackle Co.LLC. www.biggamelureco.com

Location: Illinois | Looking forward to picking up these baits Tony put me in for an order! I know how much time you've spent perfecting the right composition so this is HIGH on my list of baits to throw in 2009! You've taken a rock solid musky magnet and made it more durable and the pride in your work is what impresses me the most. Keep up the awesome bait making and have yourself a merry little X-mas, okay!!!?

well it will be hard to find good ol wood lures,it look like everybody is moving to plastic ![]() of course they will be harder to broke but i dont think that stuff can mimic the balsa

this is good news. i hadn't used Big Game's before this year when Steve Jonesi turned me onto them. i got a couple fish on the 9" size including a nice 48" up on LotW using the one i'd borrowed from Steve. the one downside is that i blew up 2 lures this year, and at $25 a pop that starts to add up. 1 was on a fish that tore the through-wire out of the balsa, and one was where the wood around the lip busted apart ripping it through weeds. a more durable body material will be a great change...will the lips possibly be reinforced a bit more too? if the action on the new ones is as good as the wood ones, i'll be buying more this year.

Posts: 2089 | I had the opportunity to throw one of the new Poly models this Fall and liked it a lot. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical at first, but it took 1 cast/retreive to realize I had nothing to worry about. It did everything I wanted. 180's,deep(relative), shallow, fast, slow, rips, twitches. All of the above.Big game quality/characteristics with a more durable " core ". Is it June yet? Steve

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | Sounds great. I really like the Big Game twitch I have from you. Balsa is going to have durabuility problems no matter how you cut it, so it will be interesting to see the new poly versions. How readily available will the 12" size be? I saw one this year (wood though), and they looked great. curleytail

Posts: 388 | I dig Big Game lures! The plastic will be a great enhancement to the durability. Is the bouyancy going to be the same?

To answer your questions: I kept them as light as possible to mimic the wood ones! The only thing I can see is the poly ones hang a little longer than the balsa, not a bad thing! The lip area is stronger and does hold up better, balsa is so soft that the epoxy cracks around the lip letting water in and we all know what happends after water gets in. The lips are a little thicker than the wood ones but again I wanted to keep them as light as possible. Custom colors will be available, just don't know when yet. The 12's are available on my site (still made out of wood). You can pick some up at the Chicago show in Jan. They will be in Thorne Bro's booth and Scott Kiepers booth. Mota, All I can say to you is I've worked on these for 3 years getting them right and don't be scared to give them a try you might be impressed. Steve, Your costum colors are painted and ready for the show, The Golden Walleye turned out killer!! Thank you all for the kind words on the lures, hope to see you all at the Chicago show, Tony Spicker Big Game Tackle Co. www.biggamelureco.com

Location: Sweden | I’m definitely going to buy the new ones. The wood ones were real killers, but they didn’t hold up too long after a few pikes.
