Posts: 14 | Just returned from a week at Spring Bay. I can't compliment Steve, Joe and the rest of the staff enough on the fine job they are doing. My partner and I raised over 20 fish for the week, and were able to get three in the boat. We lost three more, two on topwater that were never hooked well, and one on a glide bait that came off just out of net range. We couldn't move anything in the morning, and all of the fish we raised except one was on a lure with a lot of black in it. The black weagle was the winner with well over half of the fish raised, and aside from the big-un only one fish expressed interest in a bucktail. We raised more fish on weeds than rocks, but we did fish weeds much more than rocks. I don't know if the pattern will hold with the temperatures dropping, but we did our best from 3:30-6:30pm over grass in 5-9 feet of water. I'll let you guys guess the length of my new PB. I think she could have eaten my previous PB. Posts: 198 | Looks to be about 52 inches to me. Three fish in a week is kind of slow but you got the one that counted. Nice fish.

Posts: 14 | Silver Scale and Mota win! She was 52x23. I do wish we had connected on more fish. From all of the people we spoke with the bite had been off for a couple of weeks. I figured we would do more open water reef fishing, but it was too cloudy and windy to see follows on the reefs, and nobody in camp who was fishing the reefs was connecting on fish. We stuck to the bays where we were seeing fish. We also spent a fair amount of time bass/pike fishing, and we lost almost all of Monday to trolling motor problems. This was my first attempt at muskie fishing in the northwoods, and it won't be my last. Most of the follows we had were from 40-42 inch fish (the fish held by my big friend is 42, and my other one was 41), but we did see a few upper 40s fish. The upper 40s that murdered my weagle was a hoot, I just can't figure out how I didn't get any hooks into her. I felt bad for my partner when he had an upper 40s come off just out of net range. I could tell when she jumped she wasn't hooked well, and she came unglued about 5 feet to soon. I want to thank all of the participants on this web site for your contributions to and information on the sport of muskie fishing. For a guy like me who lives pretty far from a lot of prime muskie water (St. Louis) websites like this one are a valuable tool.

Posts: 14 | It was a noname spot on the western end of the lake. It was on a black skirt/black and nickel bladed double 10. Nothing looks real special about that spot, either on the map or in person. Steve at Spring Bay had raised that fish a couple of times before, and told my partner about the spot. I think what made the difference for me was the time of day. I noticed the first couple of days almost all of the fish we raised were on the shade line once the sun started to get low. I've never noticed that pattern before for any kind of fish, but it makes sense. The spot had a lot of weeds and the addition of the shade line made it a "double cover" spot for lack of a better term. There were a lot more clouds the latter part of the week, so that pattern wasn't quite as evident. I wonder how big her girth will be in 6 weeks after she gets some spawning ciscos in her? I do regret not getting a better picture of her length, but she was so unruly that we decicded to get her back into the water after the two pics. She calmed down once we put her in the water and after about a minute she swam off strong.
