Location: Oshkosh | I am looking for suggestions, and wondering what everyone is using for a sucker rod, and one that can possibly be used for a trolling rod? I am hopin not to spend 180 bucks on a St. Croix and looking for advice on somthing more resonably priced. Thanks in advance.

| For trolling and sucker fishing you will be served just fine with any decent fiberglass catfish rod. Berkley makes some decent ones that you can usually pick up at WalMart for $20 or so |

Location: Davenport, IA | I've been using a $20 8' South Bend Catfish Special for probably 6 years with no issues. It is tough and has put my 2 biggest fish in the boat.

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | The Bass Pro CatMaxx rods worked really well. Not sure if Bass Pro has them anymore. I also use the Bass Pro Mania series rod - 7' Heavy. Good rod at a fairly cheap price.
Looking forward to trying my 9’ X-Heavy Lamiglass composite “Ricky Stick” rod this fall. Should be able to really put the screws to the fish with it!
Just make sure if you get a cheap rod that it is Fiberglass or glass/graphite construction, and that it is stiff enough. Not sure some of the cheap glass rods at Wal-Mart are stiff enough.

| why spend over a 100 bucks on a sucker rod?
those Berkleys I mentioned are about the best I have seen...I have use to ahve Catfish Specials, Catmaxx's, etc etc on down the line...order one in to your local sporting goods store and you'll see what I mean...talk about backbone...you could lift a tree out of the lake with these....35 bucks tops... |

Location: Oconto Falls, WI | CatMaxx rods are under $100. Here is a link as I see they carry them again. I don't think mine is the CMX series, but it probably isn't much different. I may have to get another one of these as I had converted mine into a wireline troller. The one I use is the 7'6" Heavy. $49.99

OK the Mania rods are $100 I'll give you that one. However you buy the rod and reel and you get a heck of a deal.
Nothing against the Berkley Rods as I haven't tried them. Just giving input on what I use or used. I have used various other rods that I don't use for casting but opted not to list those as they cost more.
Just cautioning on the catfish rods as not all of them are created equal, and some listed as catfish rods are too whimpy in my opinion. |

Location: Yahara River Chain | Use a St Croix Pro Glass and it work just fine. I got it after shattering a Premier on a 50 in Canada and I didn't like the way it throws a bait. So now its my sucker rod. |
