Subject: Graphite Rod Quality

Regarding the component/quality of graphite blanks what are the differences between:

IM6,IM7 and so on, is there an actual benchmark for these ratings. Is brand "A's" IM7 the same as brand "B" IM7 in terms of the spec it must meet?

What about the way the fibers are layed or wrapped?

How does this effect say the tip action or the backbone/bend of the rod?

I have always purchased rods based on reputable manufacturer, components and "feel".

If the other components (reel seat, cork, eyes) are the same what then would be the difference between say one manufactures IM6 and another???

I've looked for answers to this in other places and get conflicting results...

Rob Meyers, sworrall and others who have built rods or understand the true differences graphite technology..can you shed some light on this.

Thanks,

Mark

Doc Esox knows more that I do about this issue, but the actual graphite content and the quality of the bonding agent is more important to me than the Modulous rating. I have an IM9 ( I think 63M modulous) rod I really like, and I also have an IM6 I love. Both are nice quality blanks, and both have performed well.
