i do it just makes it easier for me to snap them on, but personally i do that for every lure except bucktails.

i prefer a straight wire leader directly connected to a split ring on the Weagle.
it helps to prevent fouling, which happens with snaps on the front hook, and it's slightly easier to get a popping "whoosh" out of it.
the lure will run fine on most anything, even flexible fluoro leaders, but i prefer the wire with a split ring.

Do you find the straight connection allows you to speed the bait up a bit. I used a weagle for the first time a few weeks and had to keep reminding myself to slow down. I did get 2 follows in the maybe 20 minutes I used it-primarily as a throwback lure. Oh, and I caught a seagull.

The manufacturer says 'nope'; the guy who caught the biggest fish in history on it says 'yes', but not with a snap. I, on the other hand, have caught what is probably one of the smallest pike ever caught on a 10" Weagle, set up just as lambeau does (well, maybe that's because it was his rod, reel, and lure). I think you're probably safe either way...they just flat catch fish.

I split ring every one I have, and I believe there is a difference in how fast I can make the lure dance. I like .050 wire leaders for the Weagle. Don't worry about 'slowing down'...much. Wabulls however......
