Seems like the cooler nights are creeping into the days meaning fall can't be too far off. What do all of you do to get ready for what many consider the best time to get that trophy fish?!

This is my first real year for fall fishing so I don't know too much other that I am going to get out as much as possible. I put together my sucker rig last night and have that ready. I am working on getting my canoe fixed up to hit some of the smaller local lakes and creeks. I will post some pics!

Getting my Wabulls sharpened up and tuning up my favorite late season Weagle. Got a couple Mojo XX tails now, and a few DC 9 and DC 10 tails to toss. Have some rubber to toss as well, and have been trying that more each trip. Basically like working a very large creature, so that technique will get some more wet line this year. Sucker rigs, need a few. Getting out the foul weather gear for early winter, we'll need it this year I think.

No archery hunting this season until Muskie is closed....

Digging out all the gliders and rubber baits, tying up some sucker rigs, and trying to find all the warm clothes, hats, gloves, etc. I packed away early in the spring. Like Steve, I have a few custom (baby) Wabulls that are going to be in the starting lineup for sure!

Getting my fall favorites out now. Heavy Wade's Wobblers, extra weighted 10" Suicks, jointed 10" Believers and have equipped all my Rad Dogs with #10 blades for deep-thump slow-rolling. Probably try the Red October tubes this fall, they did well this summer.

Haven't got my Sucker rigs out yet, need to get them in shape.

Just put a new coat of wax on my Filson bibs. Time to find and wash the fingerless wool gloves and wool hats too.

I have a Wabull I've never thrown, just never been much of a glider guy.
Apparently the work for the guys in the last 2 posts. Might have to break out some old Reef Hawgs and try Wabull too.

JS

There is a difference between being angry at fish and all things muskie and complaining.

first i'll spend some time in "preperation" with a dictionary...

then for early fall (now) i've put some more topwaters in the tacklebox. reports are pretty consistent right now of a good shallow weed topwater bite in progress.

for late fall, especially the Vermilion outing in October at Spring Bay i'm going to spend a bunch of time fishing pounders and 11" curly sues on the steep breaks, definitely do some trolling, and i've been making sucker rigs the last few days while watching football.

it's also time to go through and double-check the condition of all my safety equipment in the boat: lifejackets, rope, etc. to be sure i'm prepared in case of a cold-water emergency.

Worth re-mentioning: LIFE VEST

Seriously guys. I hate them too. But you're wearing long johns, fleece, bibs, a big parka and boots. If you go over and you don't have a life vest on, you're not swimming. I doubt you'd even float.

Wabull guys, please share your fall technique with the Wabull. I just ordered one mostly because I really liked the Weagle this summer. I like the Hellhound a lot and do use a Reef Hawg sometimes but the Wabull seems like it will fit in with these two as well. Any secrets you'd care to share with a Wabull newbie?

Thanks,
Labs

Telling the boss now what day's I need off next month.
Making up a few more fluro leaders & extra long QS rigs for giant suckers.
Last but not least, making up a slew of tail guners in every color.
Everything else I'm all set. Maybe check rubber band inventory but thats about it..

Muskies can burst from zero to 36 MPH, so you can't take a lure away from them, even in the Fall. I move the lure very fast for short bursts, then pause.......at the boat, a downward snap and let the lure nose down a couple feet and then level off....pop!

get out the float coat ... if you fish cold water you really should check them out ... they are warm and comfortable. you gotta wear a jacket anyway in the cold ... why not one that floats!?

hummm....keep tossing the Pounder - but...add Mr. Heater in the boat, have an extra set of clothes in the truck and hat/gloves in the boat, keep 10 million candle-light spotlight along with 6 foot handled crappie net in the truck for night time cisco catching, ice breaking weight attached to a rope to clear out landing so I don't break more trailer/break lights, snow/ice covered landing kit, CO2 activated floation jacket, and whatever else I can think of...

In the back of the truck- hip boots for those landings that have pulled the docks, sand for the ice on the landings, and a shovel in case mother nature gets really upset.
