Posts: 667 Location: Roscoe IL | My uncle wasn't even going to hop in the pontoon boat for our last cruise around the lake before we pulled it out for the winter. We talked him into it since the kids were going to cast for Northerns & bass. He asked me to teach him how to cast a spininng rod, so I give him a few pointers & he gives it a go. He's using a POS with 6# fluro line, this rig was really set up for sunnies with that line but used it for bass as well. I had a lure we called $2 bucks, since thats what I paid for it at Fleet Farm. A very small white spinnerbait. 3rd cast a muskie crushed it. The blood you see in the picture is mine, the fish nipped my arm pretty good while landing him by hand. The hook was right in the corner of his mouth & we released it right after the picture. Please don't lean on me for improper holds & not having the proper equipment. We were only fisning for bass & we were not targeting muskies. That said, I put tools in the bost after this. Uncle Eddie is 73 years old & now has the fever. Keeps asking me when we can go out again. Attachments ---------------- Fishing Muskie Labor Day 025.jpg (46KB - 152 downloads) Fishing Muskie Labor Day 024.jpg (77KB - 146 downloads)

Posts: 667 Location: Roscoe IL | Forgot to mention that the first pic was a vertical hold & I explaind how that was improper & could hurt the fish. So we took another with a better hold.

Posts: 8865 | You shouldn't have to apologize for the incidental muskie, or bleeding all over it, and you shouldn't have to apologize for a vertical hold when a 73 year old catches their first muskie. Now, the pontoon boat is a whole other story... Congratulations!!

Posts: 667 Location: Roscoe IL | EA, Next time we will have the tools & net just in case this happens again. I know how M1st & everyone whom visits here have a passion for these fish, so I felt best to explain the situation because it's more than just a hobby for them & they deserve it. My thinking now is, if there are muskies in the lake your fishing, best to be prepared even if your not targeting them. Yes, he got me good! But I will have a scar & chicks dig scars!!! This is what were were looking for & my boy's are totaly into it now. I have partners for life! | Mike I got the story from Dean while we were eating lunch yesterday on the way from Mille Lacs to Deer Lk. We should have went with you, you...you...you...guide you. I knew you should have got a cabin on the "other" lake. Sounds like you had fun. I bet the boat was in an uproar! Congratulations to Uncle Eddie! Jeff

| Got blown off of MLacs, but not before we did the midnight to 3 AM thing Friday night. Nothing to show for it but we gave it a shot. Went to Cedar for the first time and we each got one, mine being the smallest (me - 31, Dean - 40, Leombruni - 42, Stu - 44). We went back on Saturday and had a few show but only one tried to eat. Stu hooked and lost it. Went over to Deer Sunday and Monday. I got two (38.5 and 40), raised a couple others and Eric lost 3. Couldn't go for the pigs much but still had a good time with Jonesi. Had fun bouncing around the state and trying a new lake. I love this game. Jeff | |||
