| Does anyone remove the front hook on a cowgirl type bait? Does the front hook on these baits help keep the lure from spinning or make the skirt puff out better?
I see that llungen uses a single hook which I think is a better design. A single hook at the tail end is more than enough for me.

Location: Sturgeon Bay WI | Keep the high hooook for sure.. I have caught a few fish on that hook alone. On Keiths baits I have had some rips and missed them. Some fish just rush it from the side, or will crack it and toss, that side/front hook is clutch...

Location: Land of the Musky | From the research I have gathered a lot of fish will hit those blades adn thus get hooked on the first hook. I would leave it IMO. I do know some guys will go to a 5/0 for better hookups. Depends how hard you set that hook  |

| On all my DC 10's I add a front 7/0. I also have caught fish on this hook alone and no I don't think it bothers the skirt action or appearance of the lure. |

| Thanks guys. I was thinking that with the big hook in the back it would be plenty, and going to 1 hook would help in unhooking the fish. I just started fishing them this year, and have caught a handful of fish all on the back hook.
If its not broke.....don't break it. Right????

Location: So. Illinois | I lean toward taking the front hook off. I have caught several fish on the DCG and all were hooked so bad with both hooks in the fish that it made it difficult to release the fish in a healthy state. I have caught fish on the DC10 and have had a much better time of removing the one hook and getting those fish back in the water. I might miss a fish or two using only the back hook but I think I will feel better about the single hook. I will be giving it a try, then I will make a final decision. |
