I am looking at a 1890 DW and it has a 150 4-stroke Yam. on back. Question? is that going to be under powered, I currently have a 1760 with a 150 merc. EFI and I get on a good day about 50 mph. I think I will burn more gas pushing that boat around with the smaller 4-stroke then I would with a 200 opti or a 175. Any imput would be great.
Thanks
Darren

i ran an 1890 DW last year with a 200hp Opti using a HiFive prop.
i'm unsure what a 150hp would do, but for reference with the 200hp i consistently ran 54mph top end, regardless of load. with a 3 blade Tempest prop i maxxed out at 59mph with a light load.

Call Justin Gaiche, and see what performance he is getting. He has an 1890 with a 150 Opti on it. I've heard no negatives from him. It's the GC version, so it doesn't have the fiberglass cap on it, nor the full windshield. It probably weighs a couple hundred pounds less than the boat you are looking at. The 4 strokes will have a slower time to plane than the comparable HP DI's, and a bit less top end, in most applications. Verado's are the exception, because of the supercharger.
