Well, my fiance and I are headed up to Spring bay next Saturaday(8/23) for our first trip to Lake Vermilion and from my first check of what will probably be hourly checks of the 10 day forecast shows a cold front will be greeting us when we get up there. Day time highs in the 60's and nights in the low 40's. The game plan called for DCG's and showgirls to start the trip off to cover lots of water quickly to scout the lake out and see if we can't get some fish moving and get some nice spots marked. Can I stick to this game plan? How should I expect the fish to react to the colder air moving in? I'm not looking to hound you guys to find out the exact time, waypoint and what I should be throwing at that them. Just looking for some suggestions to get the trip off to a good start. Thanks.

if the fish go neutral on you ... back off a little from the reef, throw swim-baits (bulldawgs, suzy's) or body baits (depth raiders, grandmas) ...

Try weedlines in the narrows...usually the water temps stay a bit warmer there.

I wouldn't worry about a cold front just yet. The weather forcast is usually only good for 1-2 days out at best.

You don't need a guide. There are a so many fish and so many spots. The weather change could be good. It's been high skies up there. Fish at night

Ditto Forecast over 48 hours is 50/50 at best after 72 hours it's about 17% accurate

Thanks for the tips guys. They are already beginning to boost the temps so it will probably be 90 by the time we get up there. I would love to get a guide, but we don't have the kind of money where I can justify throwing a couple hundred down for a few hours of fishing. Maybe when the fiance is out of pharmacy school and I retire early at 28 though.

Spring Bay ? Hire Steve at the resort the first day you are there and He WILL cut your work in half... He goes out every day and knowes the Habits of alot of the west end fish.. Plus He is a good guy. Well worth a day.
