Location: SW MI | I have an OMC trolling motor that came with my boat last year when I bought it. My boat is a 1996 so I'm assuming the trolling motor is too. The motor worked fine until I bought a new deep cycle battery for it and now it won't work at all. I don't know much about working on these motors so if anyone can tell me some things to try that'd be great. Has anyone else had problems like this? Should I look for a new motor or can this one be salvaged? Thanks |

Location: Kodiak, AK | Wow, didn't know OMC made trolling motors. Yeah, check the wires. Is there a fuse in the circuit? Easy stuff first.

Location: SW MI | I've put the wires on a couple of times so I'm pretty sure they aren't reversed although now that you've said I'll have to check again. |

Location: Athens, Ohio | Sometimes, bum batteries will come off the shelf. Do you have another one you can hook up temporarily to check it against? Fuses and circuit breakers are highly suspect at these times, see if there is a small box on the + terminal. It may have a small black tab sticking out. Push it in to reset. m |

Location: SW MI | Yeah I have another battery to check it against. I'll take a look to see if there is a fuse or anything that can be messed with too. |

Location: SW MI | Thanks to everyone that helped. Initially I thought it was a bad switch so I replaced it but in the end it turned out to be a dead fuse which I didn't find until after I replaced the switch. Works great now though. |
