Posts: 59 | I asked before about lips and smaller details in lure making, since I ws making one for a school project. I decided to forego the lip and make a lipless jerkbait. After having several problems with paint drying (part of the primer coat wasn't dry in 3 days and I didn't realize it until part of the orange was done, and most of it lifted and shifted). The black also never set. I refinished a super shad rap I found floating in Eagle Lake so my teacher would be less mad, and never got around to finishing my jerkbait, but decided to try it out the last night off the dock at AML. On the 6th cast with it I got a follow from a 43 inch muskie, and caught it 2 casts later. Posts: 170 Location: Chicagoland | wow that's a beauty. congrats. You do know that catching a muskie on your first home made bait is a very good accomplishment. just keep at it and you'll be more hooked on making baits than catching fish with them

Posts: 4266 | Now you are hooked just like the fish. Nothing like catching a fish on a lure that you made, is there? Congrats, and welcome to the club. Beaver

Posts: 1106 Location: Muskegon Michigan | applause !!!! I am 50 years old ands I still remember the first one I caught on my old tan perch Little Claw. You have entered a new world ,soon it will include a wood shop ,tools and paint booth, well I might be getting ahead of things but you will see what I am saying in a few years. In 2006 my wife caught a 34 pounder (52 inches) on one of my Talonz Slashers. I felt like a proud papa. Congratulations and now try to figure out why it worked. That is the next step to becoming a successfull lure builder whether you make them for yourself or choose to sell them. Good Luck, Kingfisher
