I haven't tried the hook pick, but I have seen a few in other boats.

I got a XTools E-Z Release Dehooker. It works on the same principle, but it floats. I got mine at Boaters World. Pastika's and Cabela's also carries them.

I really don't like lanyards. Heck if you had all your muskie release tools attached to you, you'd look like an super sized fly fisherman!
The XTools E-Z Release Dehooker has a notch at the bottom to push the hook with. The hook pick might be a little faster. You could make a hook pick float by wrapping the handle with some of that bicycle handle bar foam or something similar, i.e., hotwater pipe insulating foam & contact cement would also probably do the trick..
