Posts: 32935 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Is that ever the truth. I look constantly at my sonar and my electric motor foot pedal, and all around me for no real reason. That's why I went to a wide angle camera this year...it helps alot.

Posts: 1023 Location: Lafayette, IN | When I am in the front of the boat I definately look away from my bait a lot. I'm glancing at the water in front of me for boat heading and/or hazards. I'm also watching bubbles or suspended particles in the water to determine my speed. But, I'm trying to be concious of my bait location in relation to the structure and the boat to prepare for the "8" or look for follows. When I'm in the back it's mostly watching the bait and glancing towards my next potential cast. The hat cam clearly shows all that looking around. Neat technology though. If I was using it I'd be watching my cast and retrieve a lot more to capture the fishing instaed of the boating.

Posts: 2361 | Guilty here too. It sometimes amazes me, when I get up and fish northern WI how many hits I have that I don't see hit. I watch my bait much better down south because I believe fatigue is less of a factor and I also use a bait that really requires a lot of visual contact for timing it. Up north I tend to cast beyond the point of concentration and sometimes beyond the point of fatigue also, gambling that the bite you get when you are only 1/2 to 3/4 ready, has much more chance of a fish in the boat, than does the cast you never made.

| I really don't try to watch my bait, I like looking around. Being outdoors is a big part of fishing for me. I do track the bait much of the time, but enjoy not paying attention as well. Heck I like night fishing also...Ben | |||

There is really nothing required of me most of the time that can't be completed, turned, looked at etc. before or after each cast.

Posts: 4266 | I noticed that too, and it drives me crazy as a viewer. Case in point, but not pointing fingers, when I watched Lambeu's video of catching that slob on a Weagle, I was talking to the computer screen:"What are you doing? Look at the lure! It's a topwater! I want to see the strike!" But as Steve said, you have to look away. You have to look at your electronics, look for your foot pedal so you can make adjustmants mid-cast, and more. We talked alot about topwater strikes and 'feeling' the fish. What better way to avoid premature hook sets that to purposely look away and wait for a tug instead of setting on the splash? I guess that's why pros have cameramen in their boats with them. It's pretty cool to watch the fight to see where the angler looks. Steve looking around the boat while Sue fought her fish for example. Looking for the net and making sure not to step on anything while getting into position. If I wore one, you probably wouldn't see much, because if I'm fishing alone; even if I am very well prepared, I very rarely get to see much of the fight because I'm making preparations constantly. I think those cameras are cool, and you guys that wear them are doing a fine job of showing just what goes through your mind from strike to finish.

| Steve, If you let me borrow that hat cam, most footage could be sold to Girls Gone Wild! Or perhaps a beer commercial! Gotta take time and enjoy the scenary! | |||

Posts: 133 Location: Lake Tomahawk, Musky Central, USA | Most of the fish I've boated over the years, my friends too, came when we were never paying attention....when I watch my bait I feel like it's some kind of jinx less it's topwater..but a lot of time out in the boat there's a lot of "so how about them...." convo's with 1 eye on the bait haha..it's tough!
