Anyone run an ETEC 115 on a Tuffy 1700? Just curious what kind of performance you get with that setup?

I ran a 1700 with a 90HP 4 stroke Suzi. Top-end speed of around 35 with just me in the boat. Good (not great) hole shot with everything but 3 people + a full livewell.

No, it's not a 115 e-tec, but maybe this info helps a little?

thanks for the info, I have a buddy looking at one and he's been told it will do 50+ with that motor and I thought that seemed a little optimistic.

it might get close.
my buddy has a Esox Magnum with a 115 E-Tec that i've been in (2 people) going 53mph.
the 1700 is only 200lbs heavier than the Esox Mag, and only 3" wider beam but also has a faster running line.

best way to know? take it out for a test ride and put the throttle down!

a 135 opti will get you over 50, a 115 i would guess will be mid forties, maybe a bit better

My Lund 1700 Angler would do 50+ easy with the 135 Opti. I know a guy with the same boat and a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke that would get to 48. I think mid to upper 40's is reasonable to expect.

I have a 1700 with a 90HP Opti, 40mph top speed. I had a 60 Etec on my last boat, and my opinion is that Optis and Etecs are compariable. A 115 should get your around 50mph.

How do you guys like the performance of these boats? What's the worst you've been out in with them. Looks like I'm going to be down sizing boats, but would still like to stay with fiberglass. These boats seem to be in my price range. Any other thoughts on them?

Thanks guys,
Mark

This is the hull that was the 'first' glass 17' V6 rated Walleye boat. Tuffy bought the original tooling from Kingfisher, who had introduced the boat just before Genmar bought them and then closed them down. I've owned a couple powered by a 90 and a 135, (one a Skeeter 135, the other a Tuffy 1700) and had them in the real rough stuff many times with excellent performance. Several companies used this base design, including Warrior, Skeeter, Kingfisher, and Yar Craft. The original design was a Cruisers Inc 'tender' runabout hull a very long time ago.

Tuffy redesigned the hull in 2006 and builds a single piece 'unibody' boat with a synthetic gunnel and composite hull, transom, and deck...lots of room and very strong. The 1700 powers great with a 75 hp, is inexpensive when compared to comparable rigs in size and power, and is light enough to tow with a V6 engine in a light truck or SUV.

I have a 1700 with a Suzuki 90, and I agree with everything Steve said. I live in Mn and fish Mille Lacs, and many other large lakes, and although I am very cautious, I have fished in some rough stuff, but always felt safe and enjoyed a dry ride. I can honestly say that I like this boat more, each time I use it.

The Tuffy 1700 definitely runs great with a 90 HP or even a 75.
