a buddy and i waded a stretch of low water river today chasing smallies. we came to the first deepish hole on our wade, and had been fishing it for about 10 minutes when, within 15' of my freind, the biggest commotion i've ever seen erupted.

long story short, an immature muskie was in the mood for food. he chased a white sucker for no less than 2 minutes around a exposed rock in about 3' of water within a current seam.

the sucker eventually escaped by launching itself on the rock it was being chased around. it sat in a small pool within the rock for a few minutes, until i went up and hand caught him, throwing him back in(i wanted to see some more action).

the biggest disappointment i have is i didn't take a picture of the sucker(rookie mistake). i'm pouring my own swimbaits and the white suckers are a dominant food source of new river muskies...what was i thinkin'? the proper color pattern was in my hands and i let it go without a pic.

todays total reached roughly 60 fish. many, many redeyes of good eating size, and mostly 13" smallies with 5 going to 16" between us. i caught two nice 16" smallies on paddle tailed senkos, and a prop bait. great company and decent fishing. all in all, it was a good day...even though i had it handed to me on a platter(frank can fish!!!!!)

low, low water with h2o temps in the mid 80's...way too hot to muskie fish, but fall is only 10 weeks away. when the water goes below 70, i'm hunting toothy critters. come on october.

i hope you guys get to share a day on the water with a good freind as well. there are worse things for sure.

patrick

Great story. That would have been fun to watch the Sucker and the Muskie chasing it. I'm with ya, I'm a Bass fishin fool for the Summer months too!
