Muskies were a little sluggish last week, but things started to pick up a bit over the weekend. Someone nailed a 49.25" late in the week. A nice fat 45 hit a jerk bait Thursday night as well.

I was able to get out for my first action of the season on Saturday from approx 10am-3pm and with three of us in the boat, we had action from 7 fish in Sabaskong. 4 came from cabbage, 3 from rock. 3 of the fish hit, but nothing hooked up.

Sunday morning's report from one pair of anglers had them seeing several nice fish with more than one in the upper 40 inch class, but they were only looking.

The water is quite clean down on this end, which is a surprise with all the rain run off and the inflow from the Rainy River being high.

There is no doubt that a few warm, fairly calm days will turn things on in a hurry.

There are quite a few less boats out on the lake so far so I think those that make the trip will have some great fishing if they don't run into unstable weather.

The water is quite a bit higher than the last several years and still coming up. Water temps were high 60's & low 70's on the weekend, but we've had a couple of cooler days and nights since Sunday.

Extended forecast looks good for next week (use this link to follow the trend, just refresh once or twice a day):

Been out a couple times late in the evening this week. Have had at least one strike in each 90 min session. Water temps were still only 67.5 last night. Water is dirty west, but clear east.

Having some warmer, stable weather this week so the bite should turn on very soon.

Fish are moving. Water temps range from 64/65 in the AM to 68/69 in the PM. Water is "dirty" west of Raspberry Island (clarity about 1-1.5') and very clear down towards and in Nestor Falls. Also, water clarity is pretty good as you go further west toward North Island/Basil Channel (at least it was two days ago).

There are short feeding windows. We've caught them as early as 7:45AM and as late as 9:45PM as well as at 12:00PM. Most of our fish have come on topwater, though three boats up here were doing VERY well using small twitchbaits. The bucktail bite is picking up as well. I lost one on a Super D yesterday and three days ago caught one on a glider... Anything goes as far as baits, but you'd be wise to have someone throwing a bucktail and/or topwater at all times. Hope this helps those coming up shortly.
