hey guys

im heading up to winne in 13 days and am fishing for walleyes and pike for two days and heading to little wolf lake for one of the days. I know that little wolf has a good population of muskies and is worth muskie fishing but is winne worth muskie fishing in the mornings and late afternoon or should i stick to walleyes.
thanks for any input

Absolutely worth fishing. It tends to get overlooked, but there are some big muskies in Winne. It's worth a shot.

They don't see many baits in that lake, hey the MN Record is from there!

State record is from Winne, yet you never hear about it...hmmmm...either there isn't a fishable population or it's the best kept secret in the state. I'm guessing the former, but it does sound intriguing. Try the channel going into Cutfoot Sioux, I fished there when I was younger and I remember it looking awesome and there being lots of northerns in that area.

Good luck.

By the way, the last time I fished Little Wolf I remember the access being pretty shallow, you may want to launch at the resort on the east side of the lake if you have a bigger boat. Pretty much the opposite of a shallow launch from what I remember, you may need a winch to get up that one!

i suppose "fishable" is a relative term depending on your expectations. it's a natural muskie lake, so i'd guess numbers are lower than the stocked super-lakes elsewhere in the state.

i'm planning to spend at least one day exploring out there this year. it's one of my in-laws' favorite lakes to troll for pike, so we may run up there, find some cabbage/sand and troll a couple red-eye wigglers for pike and a couple big jakes for muskies.

There are some big fish in Winnie, but the numbers are pretty low as far as fish per acre. The weed growth I'm sure is pretty minimal right now with the cold spring and all, but if you can find the weeds, you might find a few. Good Luck!

Winnie has more fish than most people think, very good idea to put some time in. Cabbage should be in great shape as we have had plenty of sun and heat as of late. Little Wolf is only available through the resort, public access has been locked up for many years...not sure why though?

Hey Man go for it you have nothing too lose. If you have no success you have
Leech and Cass close buy. ON Winnie you probably won't have to fight the crowds.

Good Pike fishing in Winnie also, My 2nd uncle was a guide there many years. Personally I'd fish weedbeds with medium size bucktails and cranks for both Pike and Muskie...
