| Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a "st-croix legend tournament swimbait rod (7'9" 1-4oz) for pike fishing. I'd be using the rod for swimbaits but also for bucktails and spinnerbaits (grinders, mepps, rad dogs,...).
Does anyone here has any experience with this rod??

| I am running this rod this year, and I personally did not like the split grip.
The rod is softer than you would think, and it does get some bend through the split grip.
I used it for weagles, gliders, and jerkbaits.
It would throw a regular dawg fine, but would struggle with a mag.
I had my handle changed at thorne back to a regular solid 15" handle. I did not like the split grip, it didn't feel right under my arm and having some flex down there made casting and working baits feel too different for me.
With the handle changed, it is my go to rod for gliders and walk the dog topwaters.
It is a "Bass Class" so it has smaller eyes, and it is probably the lightest rod I have ever used.

over all very nice rod and nice blank

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | St. Croix will be offering there entire legend tournament musky rod line in the split grip models for the 2009 season. There may even be a few around later this year but I am not entirely sure that they will make it to retail that quick.
If you are looking for a true musky blank, you may want to wait just a bit on the split grip purchase. |

| I really dislike the split grip. I'm holding more blank than I am grip which I dislike.
I have several of the Legend Tournmant Bass rods in the old full grip style that I really like. Unfortunately, I'm now forced to buy used rods on Ebay or go custom.
I hope the new Legend Tournament Cow Girl rod comes out with a full grip.

| I recently built a split grip St Croix SCII (same blank as the Premier) stick with syncork split grip. I liked the bottom portion because that is what I hold when I cast. I am going to build the rest of sticks I am going to use this year with split grips.
Still comes down to what you like and dislike.

Location: WI | Keith - How long do the the SCII blanks come? I think I heard they were making some longer ones....
I love the rod I built using the Edge blank!! Very, Very versitile! Split grip on that one with cork tape b/w handle and butt...sure works nice for me.... |

| The blank I used was a MH 8 foot blank. I built it to nine feet. The Premier 8 MH blank weighs 5.8 ounces and the Tournament blank weighs 4.3 ounces in a 8 fppt MH. 1.5 ounces difference. Put a reel, glue and guides on them and the weight is almost insignificant.
They are not the big heavy stick they once were. Plus they have action to them. I really like the glossy look of the black blank for custom building. I would not look over the new Premier. I know I am going to like my new SCII 9 foot MH.
